    In my opinion:

    BEST: Momo Sissoko
    WORST: Josémi

OK, are we ignoring factors like cost? If we are:

    Best: Alonso
    Worst: Josemi

    If we aren't:

    Best: Alonso
    Worst: Morientes.

I would hope that next season Bellamy might get a look in as "best".

      Why doesn't that surprise me.
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Are you watching Manchester United? Are you watching Chelsea? This is Liverpool F.C taking over the bloody world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        Best: Alonso
Worst: It's difficult, because teh Argie proved a good bit of business on the training pitch, we didn't lose out financially on Josemi, and Nendo scored some vital goals. As far as worst transfers go, we haven't done that badly I suppose. I'd say Morientes for price alone, but I feel harsh about saying so

I really fcuking hate all this retrospective shyte from the RCDNW brigade, attempting to dfend the indefensible and somehow maintain this ****ing FANTASY that Benitez is - somehow - infallible.

          To wit:

"Pellegrino was invaluable on the training pitch and a brilliant coach."
and "he allowed Hyypia time to frest in the PL for the European games"

OK, *first*of all, Pellegrino was offered an 18-month contract by Benitez, but (luckily for us) only wanted 6 in order to prove himself. That's an 18-month PLAYING contract.

Not a coach. Not a "leader on the training ground who taught idiots like Hyypia and Carra how to zonally mark". A player.

And he was a fcuking ABYSMAL player. Allowing time for Sami to rest notwithstanding, he was utterly unsuited to the Premiership. We all saw it. We all knew it. ANYONE would have done a better job than Pellegoslow.

"We didn't lose out financially with Josemi".

Oh, well, great. That's all right, then. Buy any old fcuking player. As long as we don't lose out financially then he's not been a failure. FCUK. ME. We buy players who can play for Liverpool and contribute to our success on the pitch.
Slosemi was bought to replace the Spurs-bound Finnan. And indeed did so at the start of that season.

He had one good game against Spurs. And that's all she wrote. He was raped for pace by Bolton's Pedersen soon after and from that moment onwards I knew it was over. Cripplingly slow, positionally clueless, rash in the tackle, a disaster waiting to happen. Utterly ****e footballer.

          "Morientes scored some vital goals"

Really? I thought he scored about 9 goals in nearly 50 appearances. Another utterly abysmal signing who forged, with Rodders, the WORST striking partnership that the modern Anfield has EVER seen.

          WHAT vital goals?

I actually rememeber some clueless **** on The Liverpool Way (in fact more than one) queuing up to tell me how vital Morientes was, and how he was a very important and valuable player for Liverpool. I informed them he'd be gone by the end of the season. I was right. He was simply dreadful in a Liverpool shirt.

I was doing a jig of delight when those players left. They were abysmal. And big mistakes from the very start.

Best: Sissoko or Reina. Alonso too but he was quite expensive, so Momo and Pepe are bettersignings.

Worst: Morientes cost quite a lot and was a total flop. Pellegrino and Josemi were really bad but were cheap/free. Zenden is not good enough but he was free.

I'd be interested if all those who slag off Crouch could explain to me how he had nothing to do with our much improved League form last season.

He seems to scare the **** out of defenders at times, especially in the last fifteen or twenty minutes when he comes off the bench when the team needs a goal. His presence on Wednesday caused confusion, even panic, in the Maccabi defence leading to the winner. Just because he didn't score doesn't mean he wasn't involved at some level.

He is clearly not the best player in the world and already this season we're seeing Mr Benitez say he wants more from him. But to call him a bad signing is without foundation.
              .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Neil, I think you are bang on the money - for all his mis-control and bad finishing the other night, he indirectly contributed to our winning goal.

Attributing a 'value' to that is more difficult though, and I can see the valid points raised from R&B and others regarding is effectiveness or otherwise!

I sense that you have anger issues, or that you just don't like me...

                          a) I never said that Benitez was infallible, nor do I believe it.
                          b) I never said Pellegrino wasn't a playing disaster.
                          c) I agree with you that Morientes was pants. Hence why I labelled him the biggest transfer mistake to date.
                          d) I never said Josemi wasn't a mistake - I picked a positive.
