Liverpool fans: The pride of Britain?

A couple of letters from the Football365 website...

    Liverpool: Pride Of Britain

As a Newcastle fan, it's always made me cringe when people in and out of the media have proclaimed us the 'best fans in England'. I've never thought it was a tag we deserved. We may well have a hardcore of support - especially at away games - but often at home we sit there waiting to be entertained and far too often my fellow fans have been quick to turn on the team. Booing may show how you feel, it may be justified and as a paying customer it may be your right, but it rarely inspires improvement and it hardly shows you support. Do you want to be a consumer or a supporter?

For along time I've felt it but last night finally sealed it. Liverpool have the best support in this country, their singing, their scarves held aloft, the pure energy you can feel buzzing through the TV screen. It's enough to make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. I can only imagine how the players on the pitch feel. I almost expected the Kop to collectively suck the ball in past Valdes.

Well done Liverpool fans, you are a credit to us all.

Let,s hope Arsenal, Man Utd and Celtic all do well tonight - I'm still hopeful of seeing an all British line-up in the semi finals of the Champions league one day - maybe this will be our year.

And just so this email's not just about the Big Four, can I just say, as a Napoli fan, how happy I am that Valencia literally gave Inter a kicking and bloody nose. They've become insufferable this year. Just a shame Lyon capitulated to Roma. The thumb-sucking Totti is the most unpleasant player in all of Italy. Which is saying something.

And on the West Ham debate. I have a lot of sympathy for the fans, but those Icelandic owners came in hoping to make a fast buck on the new TV deals and they only have themselves to blame for the farce. Anyone who had seen Charlton over the last five years knew nice man Curbs was never going to be the man to give a kick up the backside to a cliquey, underperforming bunch of prima donnas who had started to believe their own hype. I'm sure they'll go down. I just hope the Toon can get Ashton in the fire sale.

...As a neutral I can only applaud the way in which Liverpool's players and fans rise to the big European occasions. Thye were magnificent last night, the only worry being that they cannot put the ball in the net, at one point outshooting Barcelona 10-0 last night but with nothing to show for their dominance. If Benitez can rectify this problem in the summer they may be a real force in the Premiership next year.

But for this year, why can't they go all the way in Europe? I for one will be right behind them. People will claim that Barca were poor last night, but Liverpool were so determined not to let them play. Anyone who witnessed Chelsea's miserable first-half performance will see that Barca's performance was infinitely better than theirs, and anyone who does not give Liverpool the credit they deserve is either jealous or a fool.

He wouldn't be saying that if he saw how some of the younger ones behave at away matches , PL and CL.

I was waiting outside the ground after the game with Redblood and his bro and all the Barca fans were clapping us and vice versa. Loads of them went past and said, 'Best fans in the world', and shook our hands. One fella and a woman came over and said 'Best fans in the world, you must beat Chelsea then Madrid then it will be perfect'.

After we chanted "Barca" at them with our hands aloft, a bloke that was on our coach and got a ticket in the Barca end said that they all stood and sang a round of "You'll win it 6 times" - when he told me that I got goosebumps. Same experience as Red Hot too, on the coach one Italian guy who said he travelled the world commentating on football and had been to the ground of most clubs said that we are "the best fans in the world! - it's unusual, you do not support for 90mins you support for around 180 or as long as they will allow you in to the stadium"

I watched the game in Germany in a pub full of hermans, music in the background, noise all around etc etc...

When the YMWA started at the begining I asked the landlord to switch on the sound, the pub came to an absolute standstill and to a man they all watched it in amazement, some just shook their heads and smiled.

The sound stayed on all through the match after that, and Liverpool picked up quite a few more supporters.

The club should play that once the players are on the pitch for the warm up,not when they are down in the dressing room area, that scene would scare most people ****less, a pity the players dont see it as well as hear it.
Those that hid Anne Frank were breaking the law.
Those that killed her, were following the law.

I watched the game in a pub in New York and I saw quite a few (non-sport fans) people fixed on the screen at the end when the supporters were singing with their scarves held aloft - great scene
