My one concern in terms of Carra is playing against Henry, JC seems to handle other players of similar pace like Eto'o fine, players of great skill like Ronaldinho excellently, yet invariably ****s up at least once against Henry.

I think that people remember him being done against Arsenal and think that it means he is not good against top class players, yet over the last 3 years he has been genuinly outstanding against everyone we have come up against in the CL.

Carra is one of the best defenders ever to play for this club, if not the best, that says it all how good he is.

I can't say that even Hansen would be able to play better than Carra have done the last years.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Carra has been immense this season, probably been the best defender in the League, never mind the best English defender. I think people compare him unfavourably to people like Ferdinand because they are more comfortable on the ball than Carra (although he has improved on this a lot in the last 2-3 years) and they seem more elegant but when it comes to purely defending and blocking and tackling he is peerless (only exception in this regard is Terry).

Two observations about him though - firstly whenever he has played for England he has seemed out of sorts and hasn't replicated his club form (may be it is because he doesnt give a **** abotu England) and I think this explains why he isnt a regular starter. Having said that I agree with Shaggy that England dont deserve him, especially when he was made a scapegoat for the defeat on pens against Portugal in the World Cup.

Secondly, like others have said, he has played against the top strikers and had them in his pocket (Shevchenko, Eto'o to name only two) but he is still visibly scared ****less by Thierry Henry, and the FA Cup game at Anfield was a case in point.

Carra was seriously rubbish at the start of the season - it was bizarre - but other than that I agree, Dhavlos. Since rediscovering his form (a far bigger factor in our improved form than Sissoko's injury/Gerrard playing in the middle) he's been imperious.

Carra isn't anywere near as good if he doesn't put his heart 100% into the game.

              His love for Liverpool.

              His love for England.

That extra bit he loves playing for us makes all the difference.

Terry and Ferdinand is better when they play for England than Carra is but Carra is better than them in the league.

Indeed, apart from that early season aberration (and I can only really remember the Everton game where he was shocking), he has been peerless.

Good to have such a consistent performer during the crucial part of the season but I really hope we dont draw Arsenal in the CL.

Cant argue with that. In all honesty Carra's been indifferent when playing for England.

But I think both him and Stevie (playing out of position to accommodate Lampard?? WTF??) are taken for granted by England

An Arsenal fan said to me this morning

"Carragher is THE most underrated player in the Premiership"

                        and he ain't wrong.

I hope he isn't arsed either Shaggy,it'd be a shame for him looking back over his career having hopefully won it all (No.19 surley on it's way before the end) and being likened to Steve ****ing Bruce.

Bruce, while I can't stand him was a fantastic defender and the 1st thing that I think when seeing him on TV is that he never got a Cap or the credit he deserved, sorry the 1st thing I think of is kunt!!

We owe England and our FA (in particular) nothing at all.

He can carry on performing for Liverpool like that all he wants and get no recognition from outside. We know his worth and he knows we know, and that's all that matters for me.

Steve Gibson (after England's latest shambles) said both us and Arsenal offer nothing to England blah blah. Sorry Mr Gibson, but we have produced England's best defender, it's not our fault the useless **** of a manager never picks him.

Perhaps I'm missing the point here. Why would any normal Liverpool fan give a **** whether Carra is 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or even 100th choice for England?

We all know he's awesome - and, believe me, I very rarely use that word - so why should we give two ****s what anybody else thinks, especially McClaren? As others have said, I would be delighted if Carra, Gerrard and every other English player in our squad never ever played for the so-called national team...
