Too many new signings to bed in perhaps?

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Moses is on the bench, an impact player. I've also got John The Baptist as a sub but his heading isn't what it was.

I did have Cain and Abel as squad members but Abel's form has dipped badly since being murdered and I'm offloading Cain for disciplinary reasons. He's currently out on loan at a club in the Land of Nod, to the East of Eden.

You could do with putting Noah in there to steady the ship once the floodgates have opened

Incidentally, I'm starting to wonder whether the general feeling against Fat Frank's status as a very good (forget the "world class" debate for a moment) is not helped by the fact that most of us only get to see him regularly on telly. Maybe he's the kind of player that tends not to get noticed much, at least until he has one of those long range punts that either veers towards the corner flag or strikes a defender on the elbow and shoots past the keeper into the net. Maybe he does a lot of things that tend to go unnoticed at least if you're not at the ground watching him closely. Maybe he's actually pretty good, as his scoring record alone would tend to indicate.

Just a (no doubt heretical) thought.
Maybe he´s world class maybe not, but he´s a damn good player even though he can´t play left wing or right back like Stevie. Lampard scores more and creates more.
              * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Daniel would be useful in away games against big clubs.

Lampard is a top player yes, but he does so well cos the Chav team is built around him. I guarantee that Ballack would be top class at any other club, but the fact he has to let Lampard do what he likes makes him look inferior.

Its the same with Stevie at international level.

I hear there's a young Israeli called David who's useful against Giant clubs
We managed to rectify it, though, because it now says, "Cook" where it once said "Cock", and "Pass" where it once said "Piss", so it’s slightly less rude.

Depending on your viewpoint that could be an expansive criteria.

A way of judging that seems reasonable to me:

Has a player consistently performed to a level that makes him the best at his respective position, for number of years - lets say 5 - or do you base it on a players perceived talent level - which is open to bias.

As an extention to determine if one player is better than the other: Lets say you have player X and Y. Now take away salaries and transfer value. Would you swap player X for player Y?

Of course maybe that's all bollocks.

I think we should sign player Y as player X would likely get really moody at certain times of the month. I think the Y is essential when choosing a player.

We need a right winger and Alves is World class, he has proved that week in week out against whatever team Sevilla have played against.

Villa have also proved that he is World class against top class teams.

Lahm is also a proven World class player.

Three players that would fill in at three of our weak positions.

Lahm can also play right back and Alves can play in a lot of positions.
Not to burst your fantasy bubble, but what on earth makes you think that Rafa will have the kind of money it takes to sign these players?

Not having a go at you in particular or anything. I just fear that a lot of you are taking it for granted that Hicks and Gillett are going to be giving £50m to Rafa every summer window. I think you could be in for a bit of a disappointment this summer if that's what you are expecting. Last summer we spent £30m, hardly pocket change is it.

I can realistically see Rafa spending a similar amount this coming summer, but perhaps on 2-3 players instead of the half dozen last summer. Then again he did spend £25m on Kuyt, Pennant and Bellamy. Either way Rafa needs to bring in the right players to take us forward, what names/reputations they have, where they come from and how much they cost is irrelevant.
