Good grief no - we can't even have an element of risk - people talk about the new Anfield needing to have a Kop as their most important feature - for me if its the safest stadium in the world I'll be more impressed

What are your thoughts on a terraced Kop in the new ground?

i can see it being standing to be honest, and as has been mentioned, standing doesnt guarintee higher capacity anyway, each person would be asigned an area of the terrace, or atleast the same number of people would be allowed in.Originally posted by Eth View PostGood grief no - we can't even have an element of risk - people talk about the new Anfield needing to have a Kop as their most important feature - for me if its the safest stadium in the world I'll be more impressed
There is already is great atmoshpere in the all seater current kop. And there will be in a bigger capacity kop in the future.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
* After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

Totally Agree With Ye There MarkoOriginally posted by nobbylad View PostIf there was standing, I wouldn't take my kids anymore, well, at least not to the standing terraces, I would always choose the 'seat' option.
Thing is, I've taken them to plenty of games where we've stood throughout the whole game, but it's been safer because they've had their own 'safe place' and not been caught up in a swell of people.
I personally wouldn't be in favour of bringing standing terraces back

The vast majority of the stadium would still be seated anyway, you could sit with your kids there.Originally posted by nobbylad View PostIf there was standing, I wouldn't take my kids anymore, well, at least not to the standing terraces, I would always choose the 'seat' option.

I think people are after the CHOICE to stand or sit.

The first football match I ever went to was about 1975 at WHL and there was a surge in the crowd on the terraces after a goal had been scored. I got trampled and for a youngster it was bloody awful. The only other time I've experienced such concern was in the Benfica stadium when we were overcrowded in the seating area and someone fell causing a surge.
The problem with terracing in the past was the numbers allowed onto them. You need less room standing so more were allowed on. As Chris says the only way terracing could be safely bought back is a strict regulation in numbers to prevent surges ie the same amount as if the seats weren't there. However it only needs one person to fall or create a stupid surge then you'll have problems.
A return to terraces would be an unnecessary safety risk. We need to separate the argument of singing / sitting / standing. People can sing whilst seating. Other teams abroad manage it so we can.
On a personal note I prefer to stand but I like the option to sit down at HT etc. Maybe I'm getting old.

Do you think the police would find it more difficult to police a terracing Al?
I think they would and we know there has been a decrease in hooliganism since we went all seater (nationally).Originally posted by Gordon Brown

This is my last post in this thread, but please, PLEASE can somebody tell me how this kind of regulated safe-standing, is any way, even remotely dangerous ? Everybody has their own space and a barrier in front of them. It IS safe.
How could a 'surge' happen in this kind of safe-standing area ?!

There was nothing like standing on the kop. If I had the choice I would stand at every game.

I have to agree with AA. I can't see anything in the above design which would justifiably deem it unsafe.Originally posted by anfieldanfield View PostAAarrrggghhhhh!!!!

True but there is a correlation between the introduction of all seater stadia and the dramatic decrease in hooliganism in this country.Originally posted by desertscouser View Post
But you wouldn't get thousands of pissed up hooligans going to the game. And surely thousands of pissed up hooligans would be a safety risk in an all seated area?
There's something about being stood up in a massive crowd that brings out the worst in people in this country IMO.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

It wont happen, safety has to come first, with terracing you can't 100% guarantee safetyOriginally posted by dom9 View PostLet's be honest, this is one way of increasing the capacity of the new stadium.
The Gillet interview got me thinking though.
The law does not currently permit standing terraces at football grounds, but if it were to change, what would be your views? Most people stand through the games anyway, so would it be a big deal?
Obviously, our club has been affected more than any other by the terraces of old, but if they were made safer, could this work, or are the memories of the past too powerful?
My own view is that I just don't know.

Because, people stand were they want. People will close up. Then when you try to tell them to move it causes trouble or people bunch up creating a crush.Bill Oddie, Bill Oddie, put your hands all over my body.
