It happens in the Kop and the away end. Stewards walk up and down to try and keep the isles clear but people spill out onto them because there isnt enough room but you have to keep the isle clear so people push each other to get in.

The Gillet interview got me thinking though.

The law does not currently permit standing terraces at football grounds, but if it were to change, what would be your views? Most people stand through the games anyway, so would it be a big deal?

Obviously, our club has been affected more than any other by the terraces of old, but if they were made safer, could this work, or are the memories of the past too powerful?

My own view is that I just don't know.
I think we are as well to leave it as is, we have all adapted to it now.
I also think it would be wrong for us to bring that argument up mate.

This is my last post in this thread, but please, PLEASE can somebody tell me how this kind of regulated safe-standing, is any way, even remotely dangerous ? Everybody has their own space and a barrier in front of them. It IS safe.

How could a 'surge' happen in this kind of safe-standing area ?!

The seating is not dangerous. It's the people's actions that can make it dangerous. A surge can happen anywhere.

Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

          * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

How can it ever be wrong to debate something?

The whole point of forums like this is to argue, debate stick up for your point of view, and see how others think.

Some people would prefer to stand, some wouldn't. Other haven't made up their mind yet. It should be talked about.
              Oh I don't know.

Dom, I don't think that's what Redblood meant. What I think he was saying was that the whole subject of standing is a very sensitive issue given Hilsborough and because of that it would be wrong to put forward an argument to bring terraces back.

That's what I think he meant.

ive been crushed a couple of times and its scarey as ****, was also with red al in benfica where we both nearly went over the top balcony due to a surge and people not sitting. crowd safety and the comfortable spacious seat for every fan is the order of the day. nobody wants to hear the ignorance of go and sit in another part of the ground. for SOME of us the legacy of being part of the kop has been passed down from our fathers and grandfathers and we want to pass that on to our children in a manner that is not only safe but also where they can WATCH the game.

Me too. Standing on the Kop was generally pretty roomy in my day anyhow, unless it was a Man U game. I don't see how the pics that were sent of designated standing areas would be unsafe, and standing up is, for me, the natural way to watch anything exciting.

But don't people stand up in their space in the all seater matches anyhow. And are they any less pissed up or pissed off for having a seat behind them?

i was assuming with that pic that aa sent up that you'd have an alloted standing place. in other words, all seater but without the seats.

As I understand it...you have an allotted seat but it is still a standing area, they have the restraining bars in place so that when people stand the risk isn't higher than it should be. So basically it's just like it is now only when you stand you don't inconvenience others as they know what to expect, and you have safety measures specifically for standing, which we don't currently have.

There are some stands/sections in this country that would be significantly safer if they had that from my experience, and in fact for anywhere that standing occurs regularly it just makes sense IMO to have measures in place with that in mind rather than just ignoring it.

But, when its standing people stand were they want. Its not often tickets count for anything when people stand. How many people have gone to away games and stood with their mates rather than where there seat is?
