I don’t want to discredit NI’s brilliant results, but the hypocrisy here doesn’t half make me laugh. The same people who shout from the rooftops “ENGLAND ARE WANK!!!!!!” are now trying to say what a good side they are in order to make Healy’s goalscoring exploits look more impressive.

There were not many teams that came out of the WC covered in glory. But Sweden DO have a good international record, close to great. Pop quiz: When was the last time another home nation beat them?

International football is the highest level anyone can play at.

On the subject of Healy people have to remember that the goals he scores for N.Ire are usually against teams that go all out attack against them, giving him more space than he would get if he played at a top club team. However in a team such as Watford he would be exceptional.

And he plays the graveyard shift mostly.

I disagree. You are basing that on the World Cup, but as AFII will testify, they have several technicially brillaint players. Elmander, Kallstrom, Ljungberg, Ibrahimovic...

Unless the big boys are meeting each other, you always play against **** teams. Really **** teams. International football is of a lower standard than CL football, upper-echelon domestic football in Europe’s top leagues.

Any of the top 4 in the Prem would beat England. Barca would murder Spain. I could go on.

England are playing poorly at present, but they are not Wank.

2002 WC - QF to Brazil who won the tournament.

2004 EC - QF to Portugal who were the host nation and reached the final. Went out on Penaltys and if not for a Swiss ref would have scored an ET winner.

2006 WC - QF to Portugal again and again its on penaltys.

England will again qualify and will again do reasonably well once there. **** manager though.

Every time England play, the pubs are packed. When Turkey beat Greece the other day the Turks were going mental. When N.Ire beat England I thought they were gonna make it a national holiday.

All the players who play football say that being chosen to play for their country is the biggest honour in football.

The examples you cite are obvious – one a game between two countries who detest each other, and another one in which the minnows got a rare win over their more illustrious neighbours.
