Pennant was one of our best players today, has been for six weeks now,but all you can say is he should score more goals.

I presumed you were being ironic at first, but now I'm not sure.

Pennant is slowly winning me over now, and although he's still got a way to go yet, his recent form has been good, and moreover it's been fantastic to see him playing with more confidence now.

However, he does need to score more goals. Our lack of an out-and-out goalscorer and Rafa's penchant for strikers that work hard for the team surely means we need goals form all over the park, no?

In fact wasn't that part of the philosophy?

Speaking of goals from all over the park, Arbeloa's was a cracker

It could be said that at the moment Pennant is not at fault. Moreover it could be said that we put our 3 best strikers on the pitch today and two of them looked crap.If our LB hadn`t scored today then we would have been in trouble.

We could look all over the park today for bad performances.

Our non-goal-scoring winger was one of our better players today.(Not Gonzo)

Entirely agree, he's actually been one of better performing players in general recently, just got the wrong end of the stick as this sounded a little tongue-in-cheek:

Why,we employ strikers to score the goals.
Which they haven't really been doing all that much lately (bar Crouch)

So we could blame Rafa for buying the likes of Bellers and Kuyt and not Pennant for failing to do their job for them.

I for one don`t blame anyone.
We`re 3 rd in the league behind a VERY lucky Manure and a VERY expensive Chelsea after a car crash version off our first ten games(25%).

We`re almost in the semi final of the CL,a trophy we can`t to win every year.

And we got knocked out of the mickey mouse cup and the cup we won last yr(F.A.) because Rafa decided we couldn`t compete on four fronts.

If we win the CL again and qualify for it in 3 rd position in the PL we`ll have exceeded expectations for this yr.

Next yr we`ll have a chance of winning the PL based on this seasons performances of ALL teams this yr.

Well, I guess so. I suppose at the end of the day he's the manager, so the buck does kinda rest with him, but like you:

Yup. That slow start killed us.

I hope you're right. "Next year" is a mantra I'd like to avoid if poss.

Totally agree with AA, Pennant has to offer more goal threat.

He certainly has improved from his early season "form" but needs to take it to a higher level.

                      I still have my doubts.

He has improved an enormous amout over the last 3 months, and as stated by others, I think he would be a more than capable squad player for next season. I don't think he will be happy about beeing cover for whoever we buy in the summer.

At least when we do sell we will not be losing as much as it originally looked like.

all midfielders need to be pushing for 10 goals a season

                          someone like gerrard 15

He needs minimum 5, with the aim for 10.

As does all wide midfielders - especially as our central 2 usually wont chip in with goals, unless it's Gerrard.

We aren't exactly a team bursting with goal threats!

unless we get a striker thats going to score 20/25 goals a season, all attacking midfielders need 10 goals for us to win the league

                                That's fair enough.

At the moment unless Crouch plays every game we don't have somebody that can reach 20 in the league.
