Shaggy it dont matter if he scores goals or not as long as he keeps creating.

Well done JP Im delighted for you after all the **** you had to take when you were tyring to settle in. What a ball yesterday for the winner

you can not win the league if you only rely on strikers to score goals

Certainly the lack of goal threat from midfield and defence is one of the big problems in our side. However Agger, Arbeloa & Riise have all stepped up of late from the back of late, maybe with time Pennant will learn when to move inside. We can but hope.

He has a hat trick on his record so he must be capable of it.

Of course it matters. You need everyone chipping in with goals. Remember Benitez's Valencia side one of the times they won the league? Mista top scorer with something like 7 goals? Everyone weighed in with half a dozen or so.

We obviously want our top scorers to have more than 7, which they do, but we also need goals from our wide midfield players. United have Ronaldo contributing nearly 20 from the flanks, Giggs usually in double figures.

Pennant has improved loads and his crossing is getting much more consistent, but he needs to add a goal threat to his game.

Pennant is tricky at best but due to his lack of genuine pace he is not a genuine threat to a fullback - i.e. the full back isn't going to be thinking "I wonder which way he's going to go and I'm going to be struggling if he beats me"

His cross for Kuyt's goal was good yesterday, but he doesn't drive enough at the fullback and produce a high % of killer balls for a top class wide man. Squad player at best. We need , much much better for the 1st 11.

I wonder what was the fullback thinking there then. Whatever it was he obviously got it wrong

He crossed for the winning goal yesterday. Can't we just leave him be till the next game?

His game is still coming on, and IMO his goal ratio will improve along with his assists.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

My point is: he still didn't drive at the FB and beat him. He doesn't do enough of it. It was a good cross that should have be dealt with by the 2 CBs (to be honest), but they were both day dreaming and let Kuyt in.

While it'd be nice to have a winger capable of running at fullbacks and turning them inside out, to be honest I'm just happy if he gets somewhere near the byline and digs out a decent cross.

Earlier in the season he didn't seem to have the confidence to properly take it on, and we were seeing quite a lot of crosses from deep - which lets face it, ain't really his strong point.

If he can get to the byline (or as near as) and then float one in, he seems to produce much more effective crosses, and if he can keep on doing that, as well as come up with a few goals now and then, I'd say he's well on the way to justifying his price tag

I'd rather we just sold him (and the like) and bought some real quality in whcih is what we lack for a real title challenge.
