J Pennant Appreciation

Well for me he is doing everything I want to see in a "winger" and he is making excellent decisions time and time again, not afraid to take a man on ( how many times can you say that of recent liverpool players ) , sometimes he puts in the first ball sometimes not, he mixs it up and has been very very effective of late. For me hes a dangerous player a cut above the rest.

Sure I want another option on the right but as it stands Lionel is doing the business for me right now

I've decided i want him to stay, however, this is only because Nicey pointed out he looks like Lionel Richie. There is a spooky resemblance. Do you think Lionel was ever romantically linked with Jermain's mum? It's hilarious, I laugh everytime I see him now


Apart from that, his overall game is still not good enough and I completely concur with the gloves assessment of him. Still got it all to prove I'm afraid. He has moments of class but then gets lost for long periods. He has the potential, but there is something about him that suggests it will never get fulfilled.

i'll go along with that, I think his improvement over the season has earned him at least another years stay with us, still think we should bring in another right winger and use him as back up but credit to him for the last few months. Still think he needs to shut his mouth when it comes to england tho, it doesn't do him any favours.

To be fair in terms of assists, hes probably more productive than downing, lennon and phillips.

He deserves credit. He took the flak when he was playing **** and now he's playing well, so he deserves credit.

I think he finally looks as though he feels at home in our squad. I think he could have a future as a squad player.

A pretty fair assessment.
Trouble with Pennant though is he doesn't really beat his man enough. One of the problems we can have is opening teams up who play 4-5-1. Teams who play for a point with a packed defence. Thats when you need your wide players to beat the full back & commit another defender from the middle. This frees a bit of space in the box for the strikers to work in. Lennon for example does this brilliantly as does Ronaldo. Pennant doesn't.
