I would defo go if I get the time of work and have the cash. I've never been to any LFC game that suggests to me there would be trouble big time.

Like I said earlier there will always be some idiots kicking off in some way in this type of game, but this ain't the 80's anymore. Of the violence from English fans abroad I see its normally a battle against over zealous police, not between rival fans.

In general, it is fine.

But we are only talking here about this one-off game being played by 2 of the giants of English football in the biggest Club final there is in the world, who just happen to have the biggest rivalry in English football there is, being played in a foreign land, which will be full of alcohol fuelled adolescents (and some that are older that should know different!) out to prove a point.

The voice of reason will be drowned out, especially by the losing teams fans, they will be inconsolable at having lost this one off match to the perceived enemy, them up/down the road.

It's not just the combination of fans that's the issue. It's that combo plus 2 of the largest sets of fans in Europe + the biggest rivalry in English football + all of the fans travelling from the same airport + the British / English culture of various amounts of beer prior to / after the game, followed by those effects + extreme heat.

Then there's the attitude of Continental-style policing. Like it or not, Brits have a very different mentality / culture to many of our counterparts on the Continent, and the "you're not allowed to do that to me" attitude is part of it. So that's part of the reason why we react when the policing gets over-zealous. Whereas some "locals" from Europe just accept it as the policing style that they live with.

The Greek police would be scared sh*tless of the prospect of 80,000 pissed up, warring Scousers and Mancs on their doorstep; 50% of which would be celebrating and taunting the opposition, the other half of which would be deperately trying to drown their sorrows / not react. The police would deal with it in the only way they know how, which is what we saw in Rome this week.

Goodness knows what the Airlines are thinking at this point.

I remember a game vs the scum at Anfield back in the early 80's. Not sure what the reason was but a couple of hundred mancs could not get in the away terrace. Anyway, the police marched them down and put them on the Kop!

I was in the Kemlyn at the Kop end and spent most of the match watching the running battle as Reds fans charged the police cordon around the mancs, trying to get at them.

The game was a complete bore, ended 0-0, with virtually no action worthy of note. I reckon the players were told to just play a subdued game, with nothing to spark off any madness.

God knows what would have happened if the scum had scored.

The hatred is always going to be there. Its almost bred into you to hate them, probably the same for the scum.

I won't go to the CL final if both teams reach it, but only because I won't be able to get a ticket!

It's terrible and the place they put us is a prime target for those above to throw all sorts of disgusting stuff down on us. It's not just us that gets trouble there tho - I know West Ham fans who've been on the receiving end as well. Had their mini bus jumped by about 20 Mancs as they were trying to get home. That was last year. Unfortunately one Manc got run over by the bus and got a broken leg!

I'm flabbergasted by the delusional attitude of some posters on this thread. The majority are right in saying that a Manc v LFC final would be war.
Pointing this out and explaining it to those who do not realise it does not condone the violence that WOULD DEFINITELY happen.

I'm a passivist and a coward when it comes to violence and am usually never aggressive - but faced with a CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL with the filth, I will be wound up like you wouldn't believe and would definitely get into verbals (and only verbals) with my Scum supporting mates - and that's with mates and before we get the beers in.
Because of the depth of feeling with regards to the fixture, because of the occasion, because of the Heaven or Hell nature of the result.

Can you imagine how many of the people supporting both sides will not stop at verbals though? How many regularly and willingly participate in violence of a Saturday night? How many are scallies who love a ruckus?
They'll lap it up.

Not just that, but the provocation of otherwise sane and non-violent supporters will be unfathomable, and the possibilities for clashes between 2 groups of passionate supporters who LOATHE each other will be endless. I've been at enough games all over the world to know that all it takes is one nutter, one overzealous copper to set it all off. Tensions will be so high it will take **** all to get it going.
And as others have said, this can and would happen everywhere. It could kick-off on the bus to the airport, and/or in the check-in queue at MAN, on the planes there, at the bloody baggage carousel, on the bus into the Athens, in Athens itself, around the ground before the game, in the ground during the game, after the game in pubs, clubs, streets etc. etc.

It is a nightmare scenario, and one that hopefully Roma will hopefully put paid to at Old Toilet. That's not even beginning to think of the repercussions of an actual CL final against the scum, which terrify's the life out of me.
