    Why no Villa?

I keep reading people scoffing at the notion of us signing David Villa or Samuel Eto'o...almost as if it'd be on the same lines of Everton signing Kaka or something...and i really dont understand why.

I appreciate they'd both be very expensive and it's not been the Liverpool way in recent years, to spend over £10m on a signing, too often.

But its certainly seems like we'll be in a stronger position money-wise, now the takeover's gone through.

As for the two players themselves, there seems to be a doubt as to whether they'd want to come here. That's understandable, but i've seen people posting to such an emphatic extent, that they wouldnt be seen dead at Liverpool - and again, i dont see why that'd be the case.

Certainly, with regards to Eto'o, there's been complimentary quotes about us. Sure the papers can make them up, but i dont see any reason why Eto'o would be adverse to the idea of joining us.

If someone can tell me why the prospect of signing Eto'o or Villa is so ridiculous, i'm all ears.

But IMO, if someone like Eto'o made the kind of noises to suggest he fancies a move, we'd stand a very decent chance of landing him.

Why is it such a ridiculous assumption?

Big story on the back page of yesterday's Daily Mirror that Rafa has identified Eto'o as his prime target this summer.
I'd be absolutely over ther moon if we managed to sign either one of the two.

Well if we have 40mil to spend (like the papers say) we would have to blow the lot on Eto'o or Villa. Just seems very unlikely to me. We can dream though

i think that there are a couple of reasons firstly i think that eto will cost alot more than villa would both great players but the truly great cost alot more than the merely very good.

the second problem we have is Where liverpool is. It is well known that many foriegn players prefer london to the wet windy north west.

I can't see Eto'o leaving Barca. Why would he? The storm from a few weeks ago seems to have blown over.

As for Villa...isn't he one of those old fashioned Spaniards from a very traditional family? I can't see him moving to England.

If Eto'o were to be looking to leave Barca, I think we'd have a chance of landing him.

            Triabl Football.

Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o has refused to rule out a move to Liverpool at the end of the season.

The Cameroon ace is Reds boss Rafa Benitez's top target for the summer market and dominated discussions on Sunday between the Spaniard and the club's new owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

Asked about Liverpool's interest, Eto'o told Antenna 3: "I have three years left on my contract with Barcelona. But nobody knows what is going to happen."

I think Villa is a nigh-on impossible signing. As Mourinho has said, they are asking crazy money for him and the mere indication that he would be available would spark one of the biggest transfer wars in recent times. Also Villa has stated on a couple of occassions that, whilst he appreciates Liverpool as a football club etc etc., he doesn't like the weather, or the Beatles

Eto'o, on the other hand, is a genuinely realistic prospect for us this summer. A fee in the region of £20m would be enough for Barcelona to take serious consideration into selling him IF there are still question marks over his commitment to them IMO. I would roll out the red carpet for either player, both the kind of class we need to challenge for the league.

If either of them were to start making the right kind of noises, any buyer would end up paying something in the region of £20m or maybe £25m tops.

Speculative prices are always more than what the player usually goes for.

I genuinely think I'd get an erection if we signed Eto'o.

I didnt see anyone say it was. Infact I think we will bid for one of the two.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

I've seen several comments on here suggesting that the idea of us signing Villa/Eto'o are laughable.

I've seen a lot of people, on various forums, just dismiss out of hand the notion of signing Eto'o.
