If he played for virtually anyone else in the world I'd agree. Fact is Barca are a huge club, bigger even than us, and I can see a lot of reasons for him not to join us. Were I him of course I'd join us in a shot, but we're biased, which is the point i'm trying to make. Look at the points I made as to why he might not want to join us, and tell me which of them are wrong.

£20-25 million? youre dreaming son, surely?

Both sides have a strikers of a massive profile (and hype and on long contracts for that matter) barca or valencia do not need to sell and i would think that 30 million will be a bare minimum for either player - and in we would in fact end up using the entire transfer kitty on getting one of them.

Im actually quite scared of the veron situation and feel that the money is more imporatnt to ensure we have the extra few millions when we come to buy the players like alves and simao etc that we have missed out on in previous years - top drawer players that arent over hyped and cost 30 million and are not necessarily guaranteed to succeed in foreign leagues to them.

What about the problems he has had at Barca?
He has publicly criticised the manager & Ronaldihno. That, and the fact that we are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and arguably the most mythical team in the world.
As for the fans, Henry has said on a couple of occasions that he would love to play infront of the Kop if he wasnt at Arsenal over any other team.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

        * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

The points you made were valid ones - but then you went and stuffed it all up by saying "even if he's unhappy at Barca, why would he join us? He could go anywhere in the world...".

Making it 6 would help i fancy. Surely hell be looking at the tables though and we havent been close for years - and we will finish 20 points behind this year. I agree with all the other stuff though - fans are top drawer, new stadium on the horizon, new money, great tradition, although calling us more mythical than anyone else is a bit, well, mythical isnt it?

Not at all mate, as far as I can see, we are the most romantic football club in the world.
Best anthem in "you'll never walk alone".
              Most famous stand in football.
              Most famous atmosphere in football.
Legendary managers who are worshiped with a cult following, example, Rafa said he got more praise from LFC fans after joining straight away than he did at Valencia after winning two league titles.
Just our club in general. everything about the club is steeped in history.
There mere thought of running out infront of the kop singing "you'll never walk alone"

Fair enough. That made me feel all emotional. I just imagined that part of the statment being a huge source of laughter from any opposing fans reading - not that that should be important. Its true in many respects though. whether it will feel as important to Eto when he considers Lancashire, london or barcalona is another thing.

I understand what your saying mate It would be silly for a player meerly to come on that basis alone, but say if we were neck and neck in a players mind regarding future prospect of the club, playing style, manager, players at the club etc. I then think that our history would play an important part.

Fair point, If he's definitely leaving (which is possible after his bust ups), and the choice is between someone else and us, then we have a far better chance.

What about Rafas ability to convince someone to join.

                        Look at Mascherano.

But if a player expresses a desire to leave, suddenly his value drops.

I appreciate they'd both be very expensive and it's not been the Liverpool way in recent years, to spend over £10m on a signing, too often.

Why is it such a ridiculous assumption?
"Chelsea have been told they will have to splash out at least £71.5m if they want to sign Valencia striker David Villa"

                              That is why.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

I'm a massive Owen fan (as you all know), but I think he would be a huge risk at the moment, becuase we wouldn't get him cheap.

If you asked me for 2 strikers (assuming Kuyt & Crouch are both staying), it would be Eto'o (assuming we couldn't get Henry) & Klose.

If Owen was fit, the 4 strikers I'd take as a quartet would be:
                                Eto'o, Owen, Klose & Crouch / Kuyt
