what about for £50Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
* After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

As for Raul, id be suprised if he left Spain tbh. More chance of him retiring I reckon.

that's a big if! he has the talent, but not sure if he has the desire to up roots and prove himself in a more physical and faster league.Originally posted by dww View PostDepending on the price I could be convinced. I'm not convinced he would adapt to the PL but a creative forward of his calibre would be sensational if he did. I would sort out other signings first though.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Between the ages pf 24-27 he was easily in the top 5 players in the world.Originally posted by desertscouser View PostAA, he was never the best player in the world at any stage of his career.
Remind me just how many players have more goals than Raul in the European Cup ?
He was class, world class.

Completely agree. But if Rafa was convinced he was willing and wanted to prove himself again it would certainly be a risk worth considering in my opinion. It would depend on the fee and wages as to whether it would be worth it IMO.Originally posted by Parm View Postthat's a big if! he has the talent, but not sure if he has the desire to up roots and prove himself in a more physical and faster league."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Raul is actually the top goalscorer of all time in the Champions League/European cup with 56. Shevchenko is one goal behind him, followed by horse face, Di Stefano and Eusebio.

I don't think people are doubting his class at that time - it's just a pretty bold statement to say he was THE best player in the world.Originally posted by anfieldanfield View PostBetween the ages pf 24-27 he was easily in the top 5 players in the world.

FWIW, I think it would be way too much of a risk - he's nowhere near the player he was, and who knows how he would adapt to life at Anfield.Just when I discovered the meaning of life, they changed it

No. I don't see the point. We are at a point where we can buy a top of the range striker now and I don't think that Raul is in that bracket any more.Originally posted by anfieldanfield View PostWould you take a gamble with him at say....2m ?
2Million would definitely be a great deal for some club, but not for us. A few years ago, I would have bitten your hand off for Raul, but I really see him now as a spent force, á la Robbie Fowler.Just when I discovered the meaning of life, they changed it

Agreed. The only reason he still hangs on at Madrid is down to the power he has had at the club. The fans would probably revolt if he left.Originally posted by Maestro View PostNo. I don't see the point.
