So that is it then. Did they ever actually say they where gonna increase the capacity? We have been hearing from all over the place that it will be bigger then 60.000, hence the delay.Originally posted by dom9 View PostQuote from George Gillet on the official website:
"There is a plan in place for which approval has already been granted and we have to operate to the extent we can within that process and approval. Decisions about modifications will be taken very carefully. What we want to do is build a stadium that will comply with the seating capacity approval but be expandable. As the fans demand more seats we want to be able to give them to them."

It has been implied all over the place, but I have never seen any quotes. Just internet talk.Oh I don't know.

Selling clubs are always going to put a few million on to a player we are seriously interested in, the new money we have will only add to that. However, its the same for all top clubs. The key is to have a value for a player & don't pay any more.
A classic example is Michael Carrick. At £18.5m everyone thought he was overpriced but Ferguson obviously didn't and he's been proved right. Without him they wouldn't be on the point of winning the league. With him they are. So for United he was worth the money as he was a player Ferguson obviously really really wanted, to give him the midfield he felt he needed to win the league. No Man Utd fan will be moaning now about the fee now.AKA Heighway No9

Or the other way to look at it would be that before we had no chance to expand and now it looks like we can. Plus it was mostly media speculation about how big the stadium was gonna be.Originally posted by dom9 View PostIt looks to me that there will no change to the budget at all.
The new owners have covered themsleves when Rafa says
"they did not talk about figures.
What they have said is they want us to tell them what we want, and if it can be done then they will do it."
They can always say no.
I think the wool is being pulled over our eyes a little.
Remember - there will be a lot more Sky money this summer. That goes for all 20 Premiership clubs too don't forget.
It's the same with Stadium. They made noises about 70 or 80 thousand seats at first. Everyone went mad. Then its right back back to 60,000 now, with the possiblilty of expanding.
I think the new owners are very good at managing expectations. They imply the world, then scale it back to what was there before, with a hope of improving over time, making it look like an overall improvement.
I'm getting suspicious.
As before Rafa and Rick and the Owners are trying not to give the game away by saying we're not gonna spend 25mill per player.
Rafa will put a reasonable value on a player and if the selling club's valuation is similar then he will buy that player, same as before but now he has more financial muscle to buy 3 or 4 10-15 mill players if he that's what he feels we need.

Mate Carrick's not worth 18.5mil, the mancs would never recoup that money for selling him on in a million years, he might be decent in their team (debatable), but there's better players for that amount of cashOriginally posted by Sir Bob View PostA classic example is Michael Carrick. Yes, he's not worth 18.5 million but United are about to win the premiership, are more or less through to the FA Cup final and are 4 matches away from winning the Champion's League therefore Carrick's transfer was worth every penny.Originally posted by Morphorino View PostMate Carrick's not worth 18.5mil, the mancs would never recoup that money for selling him on in a million years, he might be decent in their team (debatable), but there's better players for that amount of cash

The key is though Ferguson thought he was worth £18.5m. I didn't, you didn't but he did, and the season they've had he's right. I know we'd say he could have spent the cash on a better player and they'd still be top of the league but Ferguson obviously felt of all the players available Carrick was the best one. If Rafa spent more on a particular player than we thought he should in the summer but that player helped us challenge the top 2 then i'd be fine with that.Originally posted by Morphorino View PostMate Carrick's not worth 18.5mil, the mancs would never recoup that money for selling him on in a million years, he might be decent in their team (debatable), but there's better players for that amount of cashAKA Heighway No9

Oh i'm not disputing that, it has worked out for him, but it could just have easily gone the other way and at 18.5mil that'd be a very expensive mistake. I still don't think he's that good of a player, and fergusson could have probably got a similar/better player from around europe for half the price. But it's worked out for them and they're top of the league, however i'd put that more down to ronaldo's form than anything else, not Carrick.Originally posted by Sir Bob View PostThe key is though Ferguson thought he was worth £18.5m.
