like a certain mr Kewell, most would label him a mistake even if he has been good when he's playedOriginally posted by fredo View PostWe should judge a good signing by the 'options' it gives the team but you have a point because Saha's been injured often and an injured player isn't worth anything to the team.Thomas Hicks Senior

i think that'll be it for us in the summer, hopefully we wont get dicked about on price (ala Alves and Simao)Originally posted by Darth Marty View Posti think that teams know Rafa wont be ****ed with and if they get greedy we will just move on and they will lose out, its a good position to be in, cant wait for the summer!!
It was only natural for Rafa to downplay the amount of money we have to spend in the summer,
"Who's your Daddy now?"
LFC Champions one season someday

He helped them win the league. He was injured a lot and that was probably the reason to why they sold him.Originally posted by Morphorino View PostDon't remember Veron being too good
I can agree with that they paid to much for him but he did his part as a backup to Scholes.
It's all about making the team and squad better.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Doesn't that open the door for other teams to charge top dollar for their players if they hear such a response? Personally i'm glad they are taking this approach, and i'm sure Rafa will have told them about the dangers of broadcasting how much money you have to spend.Originally posted by desertscouser View PostWhy?
If the selling club want top dollar and we can't pay then we won't and then the selling club would have to reduce their evaluation or else we walk away.
Now, if Rafa said, ' what they have said is they want us to tell them what we want and it will be done without question'. Then I would agree with your comment.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
* After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

sorry mate you cant justify 28 odd mil, as a back up to scholes, he didn't work out and was a mistake and a very expensive one. just proof that no manager makes 100% correct decisions.Originally posted by AFII View PostHe helped them win the league. Of course "they" can always say "no" - just as David Moores did. There were numerous targets we didn't get, because we couldn't afford them - hence Moores/Parry telling Rafa no.Originally posted by dom9 View PostIt looks to me that there will no change to the budget at all.
The new owners have covered themsleves when Rafa says
"they did not talk about figures.
What they have said is they want us to tell them what we want, and if it can be done then they will do it."
They can always say no.
I think the wool is being pulled over our eyes a little.
Remember - there will be a lot more Sky money this summer. That goes for all 20 Premiership clubs too don't forget.
It's the same with Stadium. They made noises about 70 or 80 thousand seats at first. Everyone went mad. Then its right back back to 60,000 now, with the possiblilty of expanding.
I think the new owners are very good at managing expectations. They imply the world, then scale it back to what was there before, with a hope of improving over time, making it look like an overall improvement.
I'm getting suspicious.
I'll point out that at no time has ANYONE at Liverpool FC stated ANY figures as regards transfers. The only "people" (and I use that word grudgingly) that've boasted any figures, are the press. Initially (after the takeover was submitted) the story was "Rafa's £150 million warchest" - and now it's £40 Million. Basically, they're guessing - as I'm sure you're intelligent enough to realise.
"They" (G+H) didn't make noises about 70 or 80 thousand seats - again it was press talk. When asked, they did say they wanted a "stadium we would be proud of." How do we know this wont be the case?
Exactly. Like the "rumoured" transfer budget, we wont know until it actually happens.
Finally, wouldn't you rather we had a sustained improvement "over time" (and overall), instead of blowing a bucketful of cash to get some kind of short term fix?
In short, don't believe everything you read - and certainly don't use press stories to form opinions on people.
