If we assume you're right then that means Rafa doesn't think scoring goals is enough - in other words, we would get better results without Robbie playing than with.

In that case, what you really want isn't Robbie to play but a better player - the old Robbie if you like. But if playing games simply were to get him back to that level then I really think Rafa is the kind of manager who would make that kind of longer-term investment. He did it by rotating players at the beginning of the season (so they'd be fresher now) and he did it when Crouch joined and didn't score for ages.

I simply don't accept the contention that Fowler is only at the level he is because he doesn't get a run of games.

I think we all know this, for Rafa its about the whole contribution to a game.
Robbie is shot, like a great boxer capable of moments of magic but cant raise his game consistently.
