I see what you are saying, and I also prefer to see a winger beat his man out-right, but watching the game on Saturday I noticed how easily Pennant could create space for himself given the correct kind of combination with Arbeloa (who looks like he could strike up a great partnership with Pennant in the future) and cross the ball by cutting inside.
All in all, it looks a damn sight rosier for JP than it did at the start of the season.

Finnan is our best crosser IMO.
If Aurelio wasn't injured then it would have been interesting to see how Finnan would make it on the right wing with Arbeloa behind him.
Pennant has played good in the last few games but that has been against teams that didn't attack us.
It will be interesting to see if Rafa now believes he is good enough to play against Chelsea.
Pennants weakness is his defending and he will have to do a lot of that against them.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I noticed earlier in the season Pennant was played on the LW and it didn't work out, but at that stage nothing much did for the lad. Now he seems to be on the up and after his performance on the left v Wigan I wouldn't be at all suprised to see him slot in on the left.
I'm still hoping for a Kewell miracle TBH, I'd love him to play and be MOTM v Chelsea, but failing this unlikely turn of events I can see Rafa playing Pennant on the left.
K: Reina
RB: Finnan
CB: Carra, Agger
LB: Riise
RM: Gerrard
CM: Alonso, Mascherano
LW: Pennant/Kewell
ST: Crouch, BellamyForwards.......

I actually don´t think Finnan would deliver more assists on the wing than at right back. He´s not lightning fast and his crosses usually come from the same part of the field, Pennant goes a bit further even all the way to the end line which Finnan would never do, then we´d have to count on Arbeloa overlapping all the time or else Finnan would just get in his way. I think I have confused myself.Originally posted by AFII View PostFinnan is our best crosser IMO.

I don't think Finnan would either. When ever he crosses the ball in there is no defender to contend with as the winger will have taken them out the equation. Not all the time mind but we all know Finnan will not beat a man that often, and so does he. Plays to his strengths.Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostI actually don´t think Finnan would deliver more assists on the wing than at right back.
