****ing hell lads, get a ****ing grip!! We've lost by a single goal in the away leg to the three times in a row English champions (hopefully) and we've still got the home leg at Anfield next week to come FFS...
They spent a bit of money to make that team,we didn`t have a scum-sucking thief behind us.
-We were atrocious at handling the long ball which they love to play to Drogba more or less as soon as they win the ball. He's always going to win headers but we made it far too easy for him to find people with his knock downs and flick ons.
-Zenden to start in the CL? Come on. Meanwhile our most creative player of late, Pennant was on the bench along with our top scorer.
-Bellamy was either poorly utilised or didn't follow instructions. Probably both. Anyway he did **** all.
-Our movement off the ball was ****e and it made us play some very laboured stuff.
-So many times we find ourselves playing the ball into people tightly marked and with their backs to goal. Pointless!
-We constantly fail to get defences running back to their own goal meaning we are forced to rely on the quality of our passing to create. That cannot always be spot on, and when it isn't we have nothing to offer. Especially when we don't have Garcia.

An away game in a two legged tie,Rafa`s forte??????

Great post, agree with all that.
And Kuyt spends far too much time with his back to goal helping out the midfield...seeing as the only one making any runs from there towards the middle was stevie. Xabi & Mash were just sat there in the centre circle, and Zenden minced around on the left wing most of the time trying to look busy.
"the correct decision would have been a penalty for us a red card for Gattuso and a yellow for Stevie"
LF Clove aka AFII 11/10/07
"i personally hold you and several other gob****es responsible for the chaos this club is in"

Good points, I'll also say:
- We must sort out how to handle Drogba for the 2nd leg. It was pretty embaressing for Agger tonight, I think he's been handed a lesson (not a slur against him as Drogba has been immense this season). A lot of work and tactics needs to go into stopping him/handling him. I can't recall a Liverpool centre back being so owned by a forward since Les Ferdinand took Torben Piechnik apart (and no I'm not comparing Agger's skill and ability to Piechnik's, it's just an observation of how Agger failed to win a header all night against his opponent). Not sure Carra faired much better to be honest.
- Rafa gambled - he went out to get a goal. Consequently we were far more open and vulnerable to the counter than I can remember in a Euro tie. They exploited it well with quick balls lumped up front (although Carvalho was excellent in setting the goal up - shame we had no-one to shield Agger from the one on one situation which developed). Ususally we'd be more cautious and thus be sat deeper or with less men committed forward thus reducing the amount of space in which they could counter.
- Can we do it? Yes. But the odds aren't with us. Any draw and we're out as we are with a defeat, obviously. 1-0 and it's extra time......favouring them as they get another 30 mins to get the away goal. 2-0 we're through. 3-0 ditto. 2-1 they go through. 3-1 we go through. 3-2 they go through. Not really likely to get any more scorelines higher than that. So there's only realistically 3 maybe 4 scorelines which favour us out of say 13 realistic scorelines (not goods - 0-0,1-1,2-2,0-1,0-2,1-2,1-3,2-1,3-2 ; Goods - 1-0, 2-0, 3-1, 3-0). So 4/13 isn't great odds if you were looking to bet on a scoreline out of the possibles. It will be tough. As some have said, we need a perfect performance. An early goal, with the crowd dominating their team. Then hopefully we can push on. But they are a great team. They are very strong at the back and have a real menace on the counter. It would be the performance of the season to knock them out now, especially with players like Essien coming back into it.
- Zenden - to me he was a mystery choice. He did ok, he offered himself on the left, but his lack of top level quality shows. He didnt have the pace to really rip Ferreira apart, nor the quality required in his crossing.
- Overall our performance was stale, considering we were the "rested" of the 2 teams. Just goes to show - does it matter? Is it better to be on a winning roll, playing in massive games week after week....is this a better way of keeping sharp, focussed and mentally alert?
- Arebeloa - shame he had a bit of a poor game tonight by the standards he's set himself since coming. How he could allow that little runt Cole to outpace him to the 6 yard box when he had a head start on him I dont know. As Gullit, said, why not just check his run early, like the good old Italians do. Still, a lesson I'm sure he'll learn from.
- Gerrard - another not so great performance from him in my opinion. Sporadic. Not bossing the game, not dominating play like he can do. Come on Steve lad, it's about time you did this against Chelsea. Too often against these he does not come to the fore.
I'll shut up now I've got this off me chest. At least we're still in with a chance which is good considering they could have won it by more than 1 if they had taken their chances and been given that penalty due to Arbeloa's blatant hand ball in the box.

You are Richard Keys and I claim my £10...
There is a light that never goes out. RIP Alan "Mally" Johnston and the 96. YNWA.
I thought Zenden did as well as his ability would let him tonight, I dont expect to seen much more from Zenden, he tried as har as he could and got plenty of the ball but didnt have the killer pass or sometimes the bodies in the box to find. He had a good game by his standards.
Gerrard I thought brought Liverpool to life in the second half, thought he never found one comfortable position tonight though.
Was a big test for Mascherano, he found himself surrounded by players on a few occasions will get better but struggled to adapt tonight.
Alonso's passing was poor by his standards.
Was the wrong time to play Bellamy if we were going to push so high up the pitch, would have understood starting him if we were going to invite pressure on and give him plenty of space to run in to.
Kuty was busy but lacks a bit of class around the box, for me, he will have to improve next season, and not just based on this performance.
Arbeloa had a very bad time today, found himself unsure, as soon as i seen Finan was out it did make me wonder.
Would expect us to play a better game next time by far.
One thing I did take from the game is that we are more adventerous than Chelsea, the fact that we could go there and play a high line while they defended almost for the entire match says alot about how far we have come under Rafa. Sure we lost, but we are in a situation under Rafa where we can adapt to any tactical situation and have the confidence and maybe just not quite as much ability as we would like in the team.
Wether we bea Chelsea or not and get into the CL final. Im sure we will b a much much stronger force next season.
Im not depressed in the slightest about our situation, we could still be 6 times champions this season and will deffo be a real force next season.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
