Can we all stop this nonsense. Sami won't play. All players have a bad day at the office. How many of our top players performed in the 1st half yesterday...?
Probably only Pepe....the rest were all rather absent
I think Sami's aerial ability is very underestimated,i personally don't think dogbreath would have got such an easy ride in the air as he did with Agger,i would play both of them,Agger at left back & double up on drogba when he's the obvious target man,he was the most obvious fifference for them last night & i'm surprised we didn't counter it from the bench,as good as Agger is,dogbreath is too powerfull for him,he is for most players.
Bottom line for me,Sammi needs to play,to at least challenge him in the air.
That was one game mate,he had a bad day agreed but dogbreath was maybe unplayable that day but i still think the big fella would give him a much harder time in the air at least,Carra & Agger can't imo,i'd still play Agger,he can do the mopping up behind Sammi,Drogba can outpace all of our centre halfs but he'll find it much harder competing with Sammi in the air,i really think this is were the big fella is needed,we nullify Drogba then we nullify more than half the threat.
That's the way i see it anyway
As Chelsea are likely to only play 1 up (Drogba) I'd play 3 at the back and really go for it

Why would you want three players to look after Drogba? If Chelsea go with just him up front then it would probably mean they would have two attacking players on the flanks like they did in Mourinho's first season (and to a lesser extent last season). In that case, either our wing backs would constantly be dragged deep (which would become harder and harder to do as the game wore on and which would largely nullify them as attacking forces) or our RCB and LCB would constantly be in danger of being pulled out wide possibly leaving Drogba one-on-one against, presumably, our slowest CB, Sami.
Maybe I have misunderstood how a three-man defence works but that's possibly partly because I haven't seen us play it too often (although I'll happily admit it's mainly because I'm no great expert on football tactics).
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

No, I think you understand the system perfectly. There is a reason that none of the of th etop managers use a back three against anyone but ****box teams.
I really fail to see what people believe an extra centreback give us which is not better done by bringing the holding midfielder back or asking them to man mark in certain situations.
Having three centrebacks does nothng but reduce the number of threats on the pitch by one IMO. There is a case that a specialist sweeper could allow the fullbacks to attack more but to be honest there is very little difference between the role an old school sweeper played and that played by a modern holding midfielder. The difference being we have two players who are specialist holding midfielders and I can't think of a single specialist sweeper in the country let alone our squad.

Coming from you I take that as a real compliment.

Exactly, and this is what we started doing in the second half, crowding the area around Drogba to pick up the second balls.
That is, imo, the best way to deal with Drogba.

Personally I'd be tempted to play Momo in the 2nd leg and try and physically bully Chelsea
Momo is exactly the player we needed against Chelski. He was very good in CS and our League Games against Chelski. He would have stopped Drogba a long way out.
