    Long ball stats?

Does anyone know of anywhere I can get stats on "number of long balls played", or something similar?

You won't believe this. A Bitter I know reckons Liverpool play "the third worst brand of football in the league", with only Bolton and Watford playing a less attractive brand of football.

Hilarious isn't it, coming from a Bitter. :whatever:

While sometimes we're over-reliant on long balls (stand up John Arne Riise), especially when faced with a parked bus (come in Everton), there is of course absolutely no way we're as bad as this deluded **** reckons. I fear the only way I can shut the ranting lunatic up is with hard statistics.

    Sounds fair enough to me.

We're a rich man's Bolton whether we like to admit it or not.

We're proabably more direct, one dimensional and defensive now than we ever were under Houllier.

Your mate has a point, our strength is in defence and naturally we play to those strengths.

We are also over-resilient on the direct ball game (especially when crouch is on the park).

      Sad, but true.

You seriously believe that? You've not seen any Man City games this season then? Not seen much of Everton? You reckon only Watford and Bolton play uglier football than us? Come off it man.

Can someone put up a clip of us scoring a route one goal? No, scrub that. Not one - everybody scores route one goals at some time or other - but show me lots. We score good goals. Witness the Arsenal game - we didn't beat them by hoofing long balls.

        What about this?

Yes we have our moments, but for my money we play probably the third or fourth best football in the division - behind United and Arsenal.

There is no way i believe that! You'll never convince me of that.

We're still behind Chelsea IMO, and are in the same echelon as Bolton, Blackburn and Spurs.

Spurs play more attractive football than us as well, as do Blackburn and a couple of others...

I'm not denying that we have our moments of fluid, attacking football. But they are few and far between.

Rafa's style with Valencia was dubbed the 'anti-football' in Spain and he was widely regarded as being an incredibly defensive manager, he has carried that on over here.

We're static and sterile up front and so we resort to lumping it long. We've got a team made up of workers and grafters, rather than 'proper footballers'.

Granted, It's very, very effective in knock out competitons, but we'll never win the league playing as we do.

But in terms of attractive, fluent, offensive football I would say we're on a par with the likes of Blackburn, Bolton and co..

I agree with all of this

More flair next season please, especially in the final third. We'll never win #19 without it.

                    Strongly disagree.

I'll be interested to see what the less negative posters have to say. You and Bob are two of the most negative chaps on here so I'll be interested to see if anyone shares this viewpoint - which, in my opinion is ludicrous.

Same level as Blackburn and Bolton??

In terms of our 'style' of football, yeah.

I'm not being overly negative, just realistic Shaggy.

When we are bad we are horrid, granted, but when we are good we are very very good, and not many teams in the league can live with our football. I hate to say this, but.........FACT.

It's not being realistic at all. There is absolutely no way on this earth that our style of football is as direct or as ugly as Bolton's.

                            Liverpool = Direct

not long ball Wimbledon but certainly direct.

We are not direct. Man United are direct - fast and direct. (Direct doesn't always mean 'long ball')

Our style of play is a patient, possession-based football. How the **** is that direct?
