I agree. I think he's a great player but we'll handle him in Athens.

I havn`t read Gerrards book, but now and then things from it get mentioned. To me it sounds like the perfect example on why players should write books, and certainly not before they`re retired.

Gattuso looked like he was on the brink of completely losing it on Wednesday night.

He'll last about 25 minutes in the final before getting himself sent off if he's that wound up again.

I'm more concerned with Seedorf than I am with Gattuso.
What have I learned, Mr Mackay? Three things. One - bide your time. Two - keep your nose clean. And three - don't let the *******s grind you down

He should have been sent off in 2005 too :whatever:

            Gattuso delivers Liverpool taunt

            BBC -

AC Milan midfielder Rino Gattuso has launched a stinging attack on Liverpool's "long ball" tactics ahead of the Champions League final.
Gattuso, 29, who played in the 2005 final defeat in Istanbul, dismissed Liverpool as an inferior side to semi-final opponents Manchester United.

He said: "I feel there is a noticeable difference in talent between Manchester United and Liverpool.

"Liverpool are like an Italian team of 10 years ago. Every ball a long ball."

He added: "All they try to do is defend with everybody behind the ball and one striker.
"United have far more technical players, who are quick and able to do things on the ball. Liverpool do not have those individuals."

And Gattuso set his sights on revenge for 2005, when Liverpool came from 3-0 down at half-time to win on penalties.

He said: "This final will be different - that I promise. It is important to put the record straight."

like carra said people overrate what happens in the press and it has little effect on the players

if they aren't up for the final anyway there's something wrong with them

milan are a quality side, but we are the exact type of team they struggle against, i don't fear them at all

if that was a reply to me
It's true that it's drama in the press.. that it's them that fills it in but if you don't think that these kind of comments affect the players, perhaps not Carra, but you can be sure in some instances when it questions a player's professionalism or integrity they take it to heart.

let me point the following things out to you:
                        1) after 2005, papers published reports of Djimi's comments about Milan's arrogance and premature celebrations... both Gattuso and Maldini took it to heart Gattuso came out openly in the press and demanded an apology from Djimi

                        2) he harped on about it all summer after which he came back to Milan to start the new season and wanted to quit... thought about it for a long damn while before he decided to stick it out.. he then said later that his head was not on right not only because of the way they lost istanbul but because others have questioned Milan's arrogance and integrity.

                        3) The world cup: he was fired up that much many because of calciopoli and the accusations against their clubs.. Italy won't have won it without calciopoli and the siege effect it had. Manscum has used that to their effect many times.

                        4) Week in week out I watch him in serie A. He's not always that fired up. Not even in the CL is he usually that way. Like everyone else he can be motivated more, and one thing that drives him is comments like this from stevie.

One thing the milanisti hate is to be accused of unprofessionalism. It's drummed into their players... look at Sheva, even he reacts when people claim he is trying to cause a rift, or refuses to play when called upon. Kala got mad about the press accusation of him refusing to play in serie A only 2/3 ? weeks ago. Maldini has occasionally lost his temper.. when people accuse him or his teammates of that same thing... once in WC2002 against Korea and the second time in 2005 after the CL.

As I said, when Milan is pissed they can be frighteningly good. Recall Milan Juventus in 2005, look at Milan against Lyon last year, and this year against ManU and Bayern. They are already fired up for the CL yes, as they should be. This has been their one goal since the Calciopoli verdicts were passed. They gave up on Serie A before the season kicked off. Same for Coppa. All season long this has been their objective. That and a CL spot next season. Maldini thinks one CL = 5 serie A titles.. he's not alone in this in Milan.

Especially since they have been victimised to some extent in calciopoli... and they know it, all their players do. The recent Napoli trial results demonstrate that. So people who make comments like they are cheats who should not be playing anyway..should actually look at the entire calciopoli trial... the involvement of the judges in the trial, the sleight of hand of Moratti and the Inter board, the overturning of Galliani's suspension, the Napoli trials, Contamessa's statements, ... before they make this kind of judgment.

A team does not do this well in Europe so many times so consistently unless they are good enough. You can say the Italian refs are bent, but are you going to accuse the European refs too then? As I said we shouldn't fear them, nor be in awe of them but we'd better show them some respect. And they should show us some respect too!

                        5) if they aren't up for the final, there's something wrong with them. But like Liverpool, they depend a lot on their fan support. You realize that the support for Milan 2 years ago was so poor because their fans could not be bothered to travel cos they had been in too many finals over the years, missing one no longer bothered them especially when it was one that was hard to get to... They already thought they had it won, did you guys realize this? The day they realized that it was Liverpool and not Chelski they were facing? Their fans thought they had it won.

There's too much overconfidence and cockiness floating around in both camps of fans.. Liverpool fans are a hell of a lot better than that Rossoneri lot, but on our side there's much more cockiness this time round than there was 2 years ago. Getting similar vibes from people from both camps that they think they know the strengths and witnesses of the opponents... most of the analyses being based on a handful of games. Like the 2005 final or the semifinals. Lucky for us it's Rafa in charge and he won't make that mistake. Let's hope Carletto does.

I actually think Stevie was right about him myself, he is all theatre, I can't help thinking all the shouting he does during the games is for show, he is in no way near the same standard of footballer as Stevie.
                          But
Stevie should have kept quiet, not that I think they need the extra motivation anyway, the result two years ago is what will really have pissed them off. We are going to have to be at our best to beat them. If we play with the same commitment that we played against the chavs at Anfield, we will have a chance.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                          * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs
