Given is absolute class and playing behind **** defenders is not really the way forward if you want to look good as a goalie, sure you will get to stop more shots but more over you'll be left in no mans land looking like a spare plum which he rarely is. Just pure Quality who to be fair is playing at a big club who just have not delivered on the pitch, fecking Arsenal should wake up and smell the coffee and get him and dump that liability ...16 yellow cards this season and he is in Goal .... lol Nutter
Lehmann is a much better goalkeeper than Given. Anyone remember that Chelsea match plan that got leaked a few years back. Mourinho had targeted Given as he thought he was inconsistant and easily beaten on crosses. Both observations ring true for me. He is a class shot stopper - up there with the very best but his positioning, organisation and concentration are not good enough for the really top clubs which is why even though three of the top four have had long term goalkeeper problems in the recent past none of them have ever gone in for him.
Lehmann is mental but an exceptional 'keeper.

Pepe is the best offensive keeper apart from howard
its very close between, pepe and cech in other departments although would give cech the slight nod at the moment
I'd agree with most people on here - it's between Cech and Reina, with Cech probably just shading Pepe at the moment.
However, I suspect if this same question was posed on any other club's forum, or even on a neutral one, Reina would barely get a mention - which, of course, would be ridiculous.
I know a Spurs fan who actually laughs when I tell him Reina is better than Robinson. :whatever:

agree Given is made to look good because he has to make so many saves. He is not that good and nothing on Cech, Reina, Jaaskaleinen, Freidel, James etc.
But he has also proved himself at International Level, where - until recently - he had long periods with nothing to do. He has been easily the Rep. of Ireland's best player for at least 5 years.

Given is a good keeper but come on man, take off the green-tinted specs. That comment has some worth. Look at Carson this season - Charlton's player of the year. Look at Foster - Watford's player of the year.
It is much, much easier to shine as a keeper if you play for a **** team and have a lot of shots to save.
If you think Given is better than Cech, Reina or even Van Der Sar, then you're delusional mate. He's not.
Given would probably be in the top 6 keepers in the Prem.

I think that Carlo Cudicini has become the forgotten man in the Prem, its a shame he is on the bench so much. Van Der Sar, Jaaskelainen, Lehmann, Given and James are all good too but those three are the best
1)Cech
2)Reina
3)Cudicini
Quit your jibber jabber!!!
Jermaine, you know the song Billie Jean...is it about the tennis player??
Van der Sar has looked pretty dodgy at times this season. He used to be excellent but he's started making mistakes (like Seaman did towards the end of his career) so maybe age is catching up with him.
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Oh I agree.
One of the points I've been making for a while about the "imminent demise of Man United" (oh dear) was that VDS will have to start making costly mistakes any time soon, and it appears it's begun. His decline had start sooner rather than later, given his age, so I'm hoping for a mini-crisis in that position for United over the next 12 months. Kusczak is **** and VDS can only get steadily worse.

Cudicini didn't look that smart in the Community Shield, did he?
