      It was all over the media at the time. There was several factors involved, Julio Baptista's sale to Madrid was one of them along with other sales. Sevila then not needing the money as much kept raising the bar trying to get more.

          Was well documented that we had several failed bids because of Sevilla raising the price, similar to the Simao situation.

            I also watch a lot of La Liga and even the so called hard workers dives a lot and feign injuries. Take Reals Diarra for example, he dives a lot and he didn't do that in France.

            Alves is a 100% winner, like Rooney, that is why he'll go nuts sometimes. We need more that type of players in the team to fire the team up. In some games we go to sleep from the start and Alves would give us the missing energy in that games.

                he was crap today in my opinion; Responsible for the 1 Esapanyol goal, terrible from set pieces (over the bar three times) and missed the penalty-- he came inside waaayyy too much. That said, he played positionally the way he was told to play, but he didn't seem all that to me. Everyone has a clunker, and time and reputation tells me he is quality over the long term, but he was poor today IMO.

                  Surely we will have alot of competition for him which means a price hike.

                  Id like to see him at Liverpool, but im a massive fan of Finnan and wouldnt like or think he should be just halted out of the right back position after his best years playing for us.

                  Maybe Alves right wing?? Is that more likely?

                    The guy can't defend he we only be brought in to play right wing! Not many players can replace Finnan defensively.
