Momo is supposed to be more of an influence in the final 3rd. He's just not very good at it!!!

Of course he's not a holding midfielder. I can't believe you even have to discuss that boys.
He is a CM who has scored 0 goals in 70+ games. Obviously that doens't matter much when you have an assist rate like his. His two assists over two years says it all.
He has been given all the freedom you could ask over for at CM during the last two years, with Alonso playing HM. He has blown it and it's time to sell. I can't wait to see if Rafa will show us that he is on top of things next window. He just has to go, it's obvious.

Spot on. I'd describe him as a pressing midfielder more than anything. I actually think this type of midfielder is a new breed of midfielder - neither holding or attacking, perhaps a forward lying defensive harasser.Originally posted by rhys1989 View Posthe's nothing like gatusso or ambrosini.
one thing for definite is that momo is a defensive minded player as opposed to attacking, maybe not a 'holding midfielder' of your defenition but a defensive midfielder he definitely is.
momo is a central midfielder

back on topic momo was class last season, a revelation in the team and was the reason gerrard got forced out wide as he balanced the team and he should have been young player of the year in his first season. This season he played class against chelsea, barca and was unfortunate to get injured, first the eye then the collarbone. i think the injuries may have had an affect (passing??
) on his play.
he is only 22 and has massive potential. do we need him though??Last edited by Rhys; 14-05-07, 11:27 PM.“At a football club, there’s a holy trinity - the players, the manager and the supporters. Directors don’t come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques”. Bill Shankly

It is not uncommon for managers to use two defensive midfielders. The thing is Momo plays very much forward for a defensive mid. because of his physical attributes.Originally posted by RedProf View PostSpot on. That means that against the better teams we only attack with four players and he can sit in front of the holding mid. and stop the opponents attacks very high up.
Against lesser teams he has to as the more forward mid. to take part in the attacks and he is not good enough a footballer to do that.
So sad as I am to say it, maybe he does not have a future with us.

I think i agree with you. Momo is a tremendous prospect and should take the challenge of mascher to step his game up. If he can then Momo will become a real force. I feel for the lad as he had his injury, came back with a storming performance -v- barca and then found Mascher come in his place, put a in a string of good performance.Originally posted by SpeedyG View PostThe upside on Momo is to great to get rid of him now. Everyone forgets how good he was at the beginning of the season. Everyone is judging him post-injury. Those with decent memories know how much better he was.
His passing pre-injury was much better than last season. He's too good and has too much promise to let go now. We're not a selling team.

viva el rafalucion!Originally posted by einar View PostNobody is saying a holding mid. never gets forward.
Holding players are there to protect the defense so most of the time sit in front of the back 4. Hamann, Makalele, Carrick, Gilberto to name a few.
Momo plays further up the pitch and breaks up play there and is able to do so because of his ability to cover ground, strength and stamina.
We should not even be discussing this, Rafa has spoken of this countless times.
