Remind him that man utd were the first English club to be banned from European competition, as a result of crowd violence.

Even though the punishment was reduced on appeal, the behaviour of Utd supporters contributed to the ban on English clubs , as Heysel was not treated in isolation by the authorities...or something like that

Max, what can you say to people like that? I asked a Manc mate of mine why they constantly sing about us at every match and in particular that disgusting "We won it 2 times" song. He had no idea why and said just because.

Ask them about the husband and wife they killed at Middlesborough,
ask them about the Crystal Palace fan who was beaten and stabbed to death,
ask them about the Tottenham fan who was killed on the escalators,
ask them about being the first team to be banned from Europe,
ask them about not being able to play at home as they were banned from their own ground,
ask them about having a bigger hooligan element than Liverpool and Everton combined,
ask them about trying to kill Liverpool fans at the end of the match were Michael Owen got sent off when over a thousand tried to charge the Liverpool fans coming out and nearly caused a horrific crush.

I think there's enough there to shut them up having said that most Manure fans can't go past 1992 so you may have a problem.
Just to be clear I hate Rick Parry with a ****ing passion and no I don't want to talk about it.

Can you tell us about what happened to get them banned from Europe? and the husband and wife at middlesborough and actually all of it. Cheers.
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

            from memory
Riot in the ground at St Etienne around 1977
Initially banned , the punishment was reduced to playing home games in europe 300 miles from Old Trafford....which was Plymouth Argyle I think.

There had been a lot of incidents involving Man U...not least when they got on the roof of a stand at Norwich and started throwing the roofing down onto the crowd below.

In the eyes of the not always clued up press, Man U at that time were a by-word for football hooliganism

They were banned from Europe after the riots in 77 against St Etienne Busby had to go to UEFA and suck some serious cock to get them reinstated.

              From the Guardian:
[There were also the Roxbys, Irene and Norman, Middlesborugh season-ticket holders who died outside Ayresome Park in January 1980 when a pillar and gate fell on them as they were leaving the ground.

Middlesborough did not have a safety certificate but the club said this was a mere detail because all the requirements on safety had been met and more besides. Some eye-witnesses accused the visiting Manchester United supporters of rushing the gate at the end of the game, but United fans said the surge had been caused by an excited police horse.

The decade was only 12 days old when this tradgedy occurred. As we now know, the Eighties remembered all the excuses but ignored the portents. The Roxbys were the first of many.]

1995 FA Cup game Vs Palace when Paul Nixon was attacked by United fans and killed.

In the late seventies a Spurs fan falling off an escalator and dying near Old Trafford as Tottenham fans were ambushed by the Red Army, the escalator was turned off by United fans and in the panic he fell over the Edge.

The Red Army was the most infamous hooligan group in the country in the 70's and 80's and are still active today as they are now called the Men In Black I think.

              From Rothmans 1977:
'Unprecedented measures to stop soccer violence are introduced, with positive action against the notorious hooligans of Manchester United' writes the Daily Mail. First, Bristol City announce all United followers will be banned from visiting their ground, then Sports Minister Deis Howell tells the Commons that these so-called fans will be banned from the standing terraces at any away match as soon as possible. Tommy Docherty, United' manager welcomes Bristol City's action. 'Good iuck to them. If their scheme worked, it would be marvellous. But he added that the Minister's recomendations weren't 'tough enough'......
...Manchester United fans provoke fights at Norwich and Tommy Docherty intervenes personally to calm the situation. Afterwards he says that these hooligans bring shame to the club and the birch should be reintroduced by the courts to punish them sufficiently.

I almost forgot you could mention the Charlton steward who was sexually assaulted by a Manure fan while they were celebrating a goal.

As far as the crush that nearly happened at OT ask people who were there Steve Kelly wrote a piece on it years ago in TTWAR.
