dont see it like that to be honest mate, we were behind and needed to chase the game and as an attacking threat Mascher offers very little whereas Alonso is more of a creator, personaly i'd probably have made the same choice

Maybe so - but imho Masher had (and was) still doing his job. Alonso had been a liability with his tackling and we needed pace. If you were leaving Pennant on, the obvious place to put Gerrard was CM. Or take both Alonso and Pennant off and put Bellamy & Crouch on (Bellamy right wing).
