That's not knee jerk at all but we need to improve, always. We sat on our arse being sentimental and look where we are.

Maybe by watching on TV only I've missed something but that statement is IMO borderline insane.Originally posted by enema of the state View Postnot in my case pal
i've always thought of jamie as more heart than talent.

The sentimental point is a top one and has long been one of my main gripes about the way we are run. However I fail to see how that applies here.Originally posted by fredo View PostThat's not knee jerk at all but we need to improve, always. We sat on our arse being sentimental and look where we are.

I don't think that he's ready to be moved mate, certainly not. He's still young and can still improve and if we can bring someone who can challenge him, he will certainly do that. Carra's got a fantastic character.Originally posted by Dalglish View PostYes, we should always strive to improve and yes I take your point re Ince etc however, its a little bit mental to suggest that carra is in anywhere ready to be moved on.
How many better centre halves are available?
And as you say, we must find someone his equal or better before yes, but nobody should be safe at a club like ours.

if there is actually anyone who held that opinion they belong in a psychitric ward
I actually think we'd be hard pushed to find a better centrehalf than Carragher
Anyone who thinks he only gets by on heart imo belongs in a psychiatric ward
Defensively the guy is EXTREMELY clever. He organises well is positionally better than anyone else we have in the team (by a country mile I might add)
Yes he isnt the best in possession and he aint the quickest but his anticipation is superb
If we can find better I have no qualms about replacing him but when people like Benitez, Baresi, Hansen, Lawrenson, T. Smith et al are all saying hes one of the best defenders in the world then he must have something that you are not seeingBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Marchena is nowhere near the defender Carragher is.Originally posted by enema of the state View Postof the top of my head and being transferred this summer:
cannavaro, alex, gallas, marchena - theres many more
I do think there's some validity in your comment about JC being more heart than talent, though. He'd say the same thing himself. Keegan came into the same bracket, but it doesn't matter whether their effectiveness stems from heart or talent - it's how effective they are as players that matters, and Carra is highly effective for us.Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
