Jamie Carragher - above criticism?

Is he really untouchable though? I'd have thought everything we know about Rafa indicates no-one's place is ever safe...provided he has someone available who will be an improvement..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

We lack pace throughout the defence IMO. Compare our back 4 with Chelsea's and, especially, Man U's and Arsenal's.
Could say the same about any teams defences being screened take Makalele screening Chelseas back four when he isnt there they arent as effective either
United got raped by Milan the other month despite having Carrick holding
We have played Alonso holding and not conceeded in many games
Against Milans set up and the way they counter-attack teams it was important to have two midfielders holding
Take one of them away and you double the amount of ground to be covered and increase the risk of their attacking midfielders getting on the ballBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Thats our major problem imoOriginally posted by PC Plod View PostNo, having **** all to offer up top is us back.
We have no wingers who offer genuine goal threats and who can provide decent service and we have no out and out goalscorer capable of banging in the goals
Defence and central midfield isnt going to make much difference
We dominated Milan and in terms of possession had the bulk of it yet our use in the final third is poor
How many real chances did we create??Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I agree about Makalele (and Mikel too while we're about it). However, there is more pace in their back four I think - Carvalho's pretty quick and Cole is very fast. However, as I implied, Chelsea's defence is more of a marginal case.Originally posted by Lecter View PostCould say the same about any teams defences being screened take Makalele screening Chelseas back four when he isnt there they arent as effective either

Regarding Man United losing to Milan:
1. It was one match and therefore proves little or nothing.
2. Are you seriously suggesting Carrick is a top quality holding midfielder? I very much doubt you think that.
3. Man United's midfield that night also boasted the defensive liability that is Paul Scholes and the mighty Darren Fletcher.
4. Also, Vidic hadn't played for weeks and Ferdinand didn't play. They also had O'Shea at right back and Heinze at left. In other words, they were missing 75% of their first choice defence and the other quarter was plainly not match-fit and underplayed.
So it's not surprising they got torn apart in defence and it hardly buttresses your argument.
I don't have any problem at all with using holding midfielders - they may be necessary for any number of reasons but they also certainly help overcome problems caused by lack of pace in the back four.Last edited by Neil Young; 25-05-07, 11:55 AM..

There aint that much between Carra & Terry- just that Terry offers a bit more going forward & has had a better partner at CB in Carvalhio (& Gallas when he has played there) which makes him look better at the back.
Also, Terry is in London & at a club that is in fashion at the mo. He raises is profile more by being a gobby ****, whereas Carr keeps his opinions within the scope of Liverpool affairs.3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I really do believe that Terry for example is made to look so much better than he actually is because he has Makalele is sat in front of him. When Terry plays for England IMO he doesn't look half the player he does at Chelsea.Originally posted by Neil Young View PostRegarding Man United losing to Milan:

Terry and Carra both lack pace but Carra for example makes up for it in intellegence and awareness of where he needs to be.**** OFF HICKS AND GILLETT WE DON'T WANT YOU.

First off no player is untouchable.
Second off I would say that not only is Carra our best CB he is our best defender and in the bracket of players that do not need replacing.
People having a go at Carra, are you of the opinion that Agger is better than Carra? I think every pro in the league would say that Carra is a more important player to us than Agger. Maybe you should flick back to games when Carra has not been available, we were a joke. I would rather have Carra in the side against Man U than Agger, or any other of our defenders.
If we signed a top quality CB the player most at risk would be Agger. Anyhow IMO we need cover for CB, but we don't really need to find anyone better than Carra and Agger. If they started the season as first choice CB I'd be more than happy.
It's clear only Gerrard would make a world XI from our squad, so there are obviously better players than Carra, but I doubt you'd find many CB more commited to the LFC cause than Carra.Forwards.......
