Yes, I've been a Liverpool fan for a long time. I'm not going to justify myself to anybody though. And I've no idea what a WUM is!

I think DIC would have had a greater desire to be the best and, more importantly, to be SEEN to be the best. I believe G & H are more profit orientated (although I expect at least one big signing...not because they want to but because they have to).

Basically, you don't make a profit on a football club if you splash out big money on players.

You'll have to excuse the natives a little, its all be rather fraught around here recently and what with silly season in full swing, people have a somewhat understandable tendancy to snap a bit. A WUM is a "wind-up merchant", usually a fan of another club who thinks it is amusing to post something overly negative here while pretending to support lfc, just to illicit a furious reaction. The occasional interjection from such muppets, added to the attention-seeking nature of one or two of our regular posters here, has meant that a lot of other posters have become rather cynical and tend to assume someone is on the wind-up, when they often may not be (at least deliberately). Your use of the term "you" at several points could be read as being posted from a non-lfc supporting perspective, hence some of the responses you have got.

In answer to your initial post - you could be shown to be right in time, but nobody really has any evidence either way, at least until this transfer window is over. Certainly what you say about our financial position, especially relative to ManU, is very arguable. ManU fans were so upset at the Glazier takeover that a section of them even set up their own club in protest, and when you say this surely that applies as much to the Glaziers as it does to our new owners. And that hasn't stopped them spending has it?

I understand that people are pissed off after the CL final (I am myself). But that's sport...you can't always win.

I used to idolise Souness - one of your greatest (and more underrated, nowadays) players...a true leader of men.

I've used "your" again there I know. But that's because, despite my years of support, I feel like an outsider looking in. I can't go to games and so the "you" is aimed at those people who do and make the club the institution that it is. I'm not stupid enough to think that I'm on an equal par with someone who remortgages their home to make it to Athens.

I can't speak for the Glazers but I'm sure they have their reasons.

Thank you for validating stereotypes that we American supporters are ignorant and don't understand the game. As a fellow American, albeit one who seems to appreciate the pedigree of Liverpool FC more than you, I would say that this post is no way to make any sort of first impression. What is with the 'you' and 'your'? Any true supporter would be saying 'my' and 'our'. So, if you don't identify yourself as a Liverpool supporter, why are you trolling on the Boards? I won't bother with your other 'points' (DIC being a superior option in buying LFC because they want to 'promote the area'-- WTF are you talking about?) CLEARLY the stadium is important not just to the owners but to everyone; it is a long-term investment that will easily earn a profit in time. I will take one point though; Investment in players is not about appreciating/depreciating assets. You need to bring in players who expand Liverpool FC as a brand and then exploit that brand around the world to maximize revenue. You do that by signing World Class players and having them wear the shirt and win trophies. Let me give you an example you can understand; David Beckham, who once played for your beloved Man U.

When Beckham signed to play for the LA Galaxy, was he a 'depreciating asset'? As a player, sure (although he's on form right now). As a brand maker and profit center for MLS and the Galaxy? You must be joking. So, I get the feeling you don't know what you're talking about. I don't think anyone has been taken advantage of, and once the Spanish League concludes, Rafa will buy some players (Malouda, who I rate, is on the way, Lucas, who I also rate, has signed), sell some throughout the summer, and we'll see where we are when its all said and done. Until then, if you are a supporter, I don't understand where you get this opinion of the owners, what details of their business plan you know that we don't, and why you would join a community of supporters by talking in the third person and kicking it off with negative comments about the future of the club.

I`m irish,supported LFC all my life and never remorgaged my home to get to Athens.You made the effort to find this site and are therefore an equall LFC supporter.

With all due respect Brett, if you come onto an LFC website and accuse us all of being "played for fools" you are bound to rub people up the wrong way.

I don't think there were many LFC fans who expected Abramovich style spending sprees especially as Rick Parry came out and said as much days after the take over.
The main thing with the takeover is that the stadium we have been trying to build for 7 years IS STARTED and the American businessmen will run this club more efficiently than the previous owner creating a club which can generte a profit for it's owners.
That's not a bad thing in my book.

Seems to me your economic knowledge is as scant as your football (sorry soccer!) knowledge.

It is economically essential to invest in players. There is a direct correlation between success on the filed and value of the club. Without success on the field i.e. with good players who inevitably cost money, the value of the investment will fall.
Investing in sterling when the dollar is weak is not attractive. If/when the dollar appreciates against sterling then the value of the investment has fallen.
