Ah come on lads, who cares who he supports? He's either got a valid point or not, it's your choice whether or not you want to debate in a post he does.Originally posted by Steve View PostBrett, you may be right (or wrong ) on G & H, but if your a Liverpool fan then I'm a Mocko Jumbie!

For the record, IMO I would say that whilst I don't agree with what he says, none of us can prove him wrong at this point, which is the main reason we are all getting ****ed off. Guess we'll just have to chill and see what happens..........Forwards.......

I think you made a mistake in the way you phrased some of you arguments and I think that your arguments are in some ways flawed. Although th principle that the new owners are here to use the new TV deal to generate a profit is not in doubt.Originally posted by BrettUSA View PostA nice guy amidst a gaggle of reactionary idiots. I don't anger easily but some of the accusations and innuendo being thrown at me here are ridiculous.
"Played for fools" equates to "leading you on". That's what G & H are doing right now. It's all politics to them but luckily you (WE!) have a very shrewd manager who sees through this BS.
I think Parry needs to go...Benitez has done everything bar spell it out in big bold capital letters.
The thing is the only way to make a large investment like the one they have proposed to make is to make the team successful and use the success to increase revenue. The new stadium will cost a huge amount and will not be adding to our profitability in the next few years. This indicates at least that the new owners are in it for the mid to long term.
As the Glazers have found out the only way to maintain growth of your brand in football is by a continued level of sucess which involves investment in players. While it is not obvious that they will have to pump money in every season it seems likely that an initial injection of quality players of high commercial and sportin value would be a sensible strategy and this is what most right thinking fans expect.
There has been a lot of people on here conflating quotes talking of "player specific" budgets as effectively an unlimited war chest and I would agree with you that these people have fallen for the spin of the new owners. However most people have looked for us to increase our transfer budget by enough to mean we can add two or three class players to the squad. Given we have a hugely increased TV deal, increased sponsoship and new owners who require us to be successful to turn a profit long term then I don't think this is unreasonable.
I do to some extent though expect them to want to get good value for money for our transfers and possibly to try and get players who have a big sponsorship profile."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I tend to agree with you about this but you really need to work on when you choose to come out with such inflamitory comments.Originally posted by BrettUSA View PostFirstly, I think calling Manchester United "scum" is infantile and pathetic."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Thank you for validating stereotypes that we American supporters are ignorant and don't understand the game. As a fellow American, albeit one who seems to appreciate the pedigree of Liverpool FC more than you, I would say that this post is no way to make any sort of first impression. What is with the 'you' and 'your'? Any true supporter would be saying 'my' and 'our'. So, if you don't identify yourself as a Liverpool supporter, why are you trolling on the Boards? I won't bother with your other 'points' (DIC being a superior option in buying LFC because they want to 'promote the area'-- WTF are you talking about?) CLEARLY the stadium is important not just to the owners but to everyone; it is a long-term investment that will easily earn a profit in time. I will take one point though; Investment in players is not about appreciating/depreciating assets. You need to bring in players who expand Liverpool FC as a brand and then exploit that brand around the world to maximize revenue. You do that by signing World Class players and having them wear the shirt and win trophies. Let me give you an example you can understand; David Beckham, who once played for your beloved Man U.
When Beckham signed to play for the LA Galaxy, was he a 'depreciating asset'? As a player, sure (although he's on form right now). As a brand maker and profit center for MLS and the Galaxy? You must be joking. So, I get the feeling you don't know what you're talking about. I don't think anyone has been taken advantage of, and once the Spanish League concludes, Rafa will buy some players (Malouda, who I rate, is on the way, Lucas, who I also rate, has signed), sell some throughout the summer, and we'll see where we are when its all said and done. Until then, if you are a supporter, I don't understand where you get this opinion of the owners, what details of their business plan you know that we don't, and why you would join a community of supporters by talking in the third person and kicking it off with negative comments about the future of the club.
Where you from in the States?
It is a well known fact that they are trying to promote brand Dubai. Their oil is running out and they want to be seen to be the best in the world so they can attract more busines and more tourism.
It may only have been for 7 years, but it would have been one hell of a 7 years. My hunch would have been that if we were a success, both on the pitch and in promoting Dubia they would have changed the alleged plan and kept us longer term.

ah. I was mistaking "the area" as Liverpool itself, not the NATION OF DUBAI. However, I wouldn't like to see the club used as a marketing tool for a kitchy foreign monarchy. I know they have loads of oil money, but that is not a sound business investment in my opinion.Originally posted by captainfog View PostIt is a well known fact that they are trying to promote brand Dubai. Also using a football team is a bad way of advertising a foreign country, no real link so wont help and infact could alienate othe fans.
