Platini played for Juve in Heysel, Liverpool fans cause a commotion in Athens he's gonna make sure we suffer as much as possible.
    Absolutely.

He was completely overshadowed by events off the field, despite his winning goal, and it wasn't even a ****in pen anyway.

I think UEFA should be thankfull they didn't end up with an LFC - Man U final, because then all hell would've broken loose and they still would have ignored all of the warnings, and we might have had some really serious incidents

I said the same thing before and after the final mate there would've been carnage.

The game should never have been played we all know that. I just think he's seizing an opportunity that he has had a hand in creating and shame on him for allowing such shabby organisation this is why it really worries me what UEFA are at.
It would be unforgivable if he was seen to be responsible in this considering Heysel.

This is a genuine question - has the club at any point officially acknowledged the ****ty behaviour of a minority of our support?

I agree with the sentiment - but what if it wasn't a case of kicking the door down, but waving their bus ticket at the attendant on the way into the pictures? Those who charged the fencing and stole tickets are scum, but those who calmly walked in due to the lack of ticket checks? It's a fine line, and they were in the majority as far as I could see. The temptation was huge for those without tickets who went near the ground before the game and heard how easy it was to get in.

For me the best thing that could come out of the Athens debacle is for UEFA to own up about their mistakes and to get real about awarding the final, and start looking at the comfort and safety of the fans who travel vast distances to pay through the nose to watch it, rather than blindly distributing the final around the lesser nations who can't organise a piss-up in a brewery. Meanwhile, the minority of Liverpool fans who caused trouble should face a tide of revulsion from the majority of decent fans, and the concept of self-policing should come back (the old-fashioned mentality that you behave yourself on tour as you are representing your club/school/area etc.). Sadly I think it is a societal problem at the moment though, with a sizeable number of people only interested in themselves and with no social conscience.

The big problem with the ground that facilitated the trouble was lack of turnstyles. This was recently acknowledged as a problem in italy in the last few months when matches were suspended until clubs fitted turnstyles at their grounds. I think they managed to fit them in at the San Siro in one weekend so that no game scheduled there ended up being postponed.

Knowing that so many Liverpool fans were going to Athens ticketless, why weren't temprary turnstyles fitted in? It could have been done reasonably quickly. It would have cost what it cost, an occupational hazard for hosting the Champions League Final.

Can you beleive the OAKA with no turnstyles got the final, but Wembley has been turned down because the tv cables are positioned too far away from the tunnel? :whatever:

these 25 incidents happened since 2003.

ok let's go through all our european games since 2003

03/04 we played auxerre, celtic, lubijana, steaua bucharest, levski sofia and marseille. can't think of any incidents there.

04/05 we played graz, monaco, olympicos, leverkusen, juventus, chelsea and ac milan. going on what people who were at the games have told me, only incidents were at juve and chelsea away. juve for the obvious reasons and chelsea for buildup at the turnstiles. then the flares in the ataturk which wasn't illegal in turkey at the time but was against uefa guidelines.

05/06 we played tns, kaunas, cska sofia, cska moscow, real betis, anderlecht, benfica and from what people have told me, only trouble was at benfica with a crush in the tunnel.

this season; maccabi haifa, psv eindhoven, galatasary, bordeaux, barcelona, psv eindhoven, chelsea and ac milan.

now the only ones i went to were psv the second time and chelsea away. if we're talking incidents then the problems of people surging forward in a bid to bunk in at eindhoven was the only incident i can recall at the match. as for incidents at chelsea, the only "incidents" occurred at trafalgar square. one was us hanging a banner up on a statue and the other was two fellas goin starkers in the fountain. two incidents uefa cannot bring into account. they can however use the overcrowding at the turnstiles against us.

athens will no doubt be brought into it, namely the mass bunking in and pulling up of fences by lowlifes

some people reckon that they'll bring the michael shields case into it as one of their incidents. if they do then they're feckin lowlifes as michael was wrongly convicted and it occurred in bulgaria in an area that wasn't anything to do with uefa.

now correct me if i'm wrong but that's nowhere near the 20-odd quoted by gaillard

Found this on the Guardian sports blog, apologies if its already been posted but I can't be arsed reading the whole thread.
Anyways it made me feel good,

"I'm an AC Milan fan, and I was in Athens for the final.

On my way to the stadium in a taxi, wearing an AC Milan shirt, the cab driver spotted two Liverpool fans also on their way to the grounds, and asked me if we should stop and give them a lift. We did, and it dispelled my pre-match fears of violence and harassment from Liverpool supporters. The two gents were at first surprised to be assisted by an AC Milan fan, but also heartened.

Not only that, I drank a few beers with trhe two lads and a bevvy of other Liverpool supporters, who were all at the very least somewhat tipsy but their behaviour was not even close to unruly and despite my "enemy" colors and shirt I was treated with great friendliness and camaraderie.

As soon as the match was over, I was concerned that the 2-1 result would cause problems, so I changed into a neutral shirt, but it was unecessary. The Liverpool fans that I saw were walking side by side with AC Milan fans singing and celebrating the victory. There wasn't a hint of a scuffle or conflict.

The whole experience really hit home for me, having witnessed Heysel in the 80's and there onwards having labelled anything in a Liverpool shirt as a troublemaking thug is now erased from my mind.

Since May 23rd, I have renewed faith and respect for my English friends, and anyone who asks me how things went in Athens gets bombarded with my gushing praise for the peaceful and friendly attitude of the Liverpool fans.

At least the ones that I had the pleasure of meeting. Perhaps UEFA need to get out of their cozy cocoon in Nyon and spend more time looking for fans doing the right thing, (which were the majority) as opposed to witch-hunting the few who don't and labelling an entire fan set accordingly."

BTW I think Parry has done a pretty good job on getting all sections of Liverpool including mayor etc to rebut the UEFA claims. Let's at least give him credit for that.
