I don't know if this is common knowledge or not but this is 100% true. Right the way through the 70s & early 80s and probably earlier Bob and Bill used to employ the services of a local lady Mrs Mills who lived in Harrow Road in a little 2 up 2 down which is off Annie Road by the old cop shop.
She was employed by the club to house and look after young lads who the club had signed till they found their feet in the town. Among those she cooked brekkie and hoovered up after were Kevin Keegan, Alun Evans, Hansen, Whelan and loads of others.
She had a hotline to Bill/ Bob if they pissed her about or got in late etc. Lots of the locals got to know them really well and have stayed in touch. A mate of mine Tommy still plays golf with Hansen. Can you imagine the reaction of today's typical "Merc berk" who on arriving at the club was told he was going 200yards down Annie Road to live with a pensioner?!

My mum always told us about wgen she used to push Ian callaghan round the dingle in his pram when he was a baby, and how she used to look after him when he was a toddler. I always thought that this was a load of bollocks until I met Cally at a do for my next door neighbour. I mentioned this to cally and before I could say her name he said you must be (insert mother's maiden name)'s lad.

      Just goes to show eh.

Cally had turned up to support fund raising for my neighbour as he is a mad red who was suffering from cancer at the time.

Amazing. Callaghan and Carragher are like bookends aren't they? They define eras. They did/do simply what was/is asked and expected of them.
