      Unbelievable.

There should be a law passed banning internet use in June.

        Fully agree.

May be that is all of the responce mate.

I certainly wouldn't expect him to publish the E-Mail address of Hicks. I'm i the possesion of a couple of E-Mail addresses I wouldn't divulge either.

True or not, at ast it makes a change to the doom and gloom. Make yourown minds up as he said.

It's getting a bit repetitive, but it still stands: Time will tell.

                    Hi NIred1

Hope you don't mind me sharing the story - hope Brookie doesn't turn up though

It sounds plausible to me. I believe that some of the doom merchants have been passing on genuine info in good faith, but I also think that Rafa knows the truth, and all our key players wouldn't have signed extensions talking about how excited they were if Rafa was genuinely concerned.

Hicks seems to have caught the bug, whereas Gillett still comes across as a businessman, but that might just be a personality thing. I've got an open mind about both of them until the end of the window. If we sign top players, and set out a timetable for a state-of-the-art stadium then I'll be happy. Anything less and I'll mistrust them after their public pronouncements.

i just hope its true because all the stories on the forums recently have made for grim reading and i just hope this is not a wind up.

p.s. whos this brookie then? the local doom merchant?

Not sure where this rumour has come from matey! They laid a plan from the start. They spoke to Rafa and agreed with his ideas. The plan has been put into operation.

Will we get all our first choice targets? No, as I can hardly see us spending cash "like a drunken sailor" (like how I done that?) and agreeing to pay a club a vastly increased figure than what the player is worth.

Remember SWP? That will not be happening to us, and I don't think many want that to happen. We will pay the going rate for a player and that is all. If Rafa and the rest decide that, say, Malouda is worth £9m and Lyon decide to ask for £17m they will be told where to go.

A little harsh....perhaps a law banning anything liverpool related would be more appropriate....I mean my work day comprises spending 7.5 hours on the internet and an hour for lunch!

It is inconceivable that Hicks and Gillett would invest in Liverpool with the intention of financing a new stadium but not building a squad of footballers worthy of playing in it.

How they plan to go about building that squad remains to be seen.

One thing is certain, they aren't going to follow the Chelsea model because these guys are not benefactors. They are investors seeking a return and rightly so.

They could pay top dollar to secure one or two of the manager's primary targets a season as Manchester United do. But the club doesn't generate revenue to afford such a policy. Plus, it could be argued that one or two of the manager's primary targets a season would still leave the squad short of competing for the title.

Then there is Arsene Wenger and his global scouting network. Arsenal have established a very successful system of attracting quality young potential and developing it into world class talent. This policy is cost-effective but could also be said to have limited success.

I would expect Hicks and Gillette to effect a policy somewhere between those of Manchester United and Arsenal.

Youth development is clearly high on the agenda with Rafa now overseeing the academy and the link up with MTK Hungaria Also, the signing of Lucas is a signal that they are prepared to invest significantly in youth.

But in the short term, failure to invest in the first team is to risk Champion's League qualification. The riches of competing in Europe's premier competition are far greater than the riches spent on any squad that qualifies for it. And that is why I don't buy the reports that Hicks and Gillett are not going to splash the cash. It just doesn't ring true.
It's not good because it's rude. It's good because it looks like it's good because it's rude.

Really? You should check out the Texas Rangers then. Hicks splashed the cash his early years but of late the team has been extremely disappointing, having a winning season only once in the last seven years. Out of the 30 teams in Major League Baseball only 9 have a lower payroll. They are currently the worst team in the league.

Yes, Hicks did make the news for agreeing to the largest ever contract in baseball history, but since then he's gone in completely the other direction.

On the evidence of the Texas Rangers this is not a guy you would want buying into a team who were struggling, because there's nothing that suggests he would be capable of turning them into Champions.
