    Gonzalez may return to Liverpool
    tribalfooball.com - June 13, 2007

Mark Gonzalez could be on his way back to Liverpool.

The Chile international will join Real Betis this summer, however said yesterday: "If they are relegated, I will not go."

Betis are only a point above the dropzone going into the final week of the Spanish Liga season.

On his time at Liverpool, Gonzalez said: "I was happy, because I adjusted to a very difficult level of football. I would have liked to have continued there, but I am at an age when I need to be playing regularly."

I think his inability to do exactly that is why he's being shipped out. I had high hopes for Gonzalez after watching his performances for Soceidad, it's a shame he never fulfilled his potential.

Damn! If he doesn't go, what number is Tevez going to wear?

          My thoughts exactly.

Still, there's been a lot of foreing players who have not excelled in their first season in England and then become world beaters. I'm thinking of Pires and Drogba particularly.

Not that I'm suggesting he had the potential to be a world beater, but was he so bad this season so as not to warrant a second chance?

I think our play on the wing in general was so bad as to not allow him a secodn season. We really need class on both wings and we are unable to give Gonzalez the games he rightly points out he needs to develop.

I completely agree with you that a second season in the Prem would be of benefit to him, and I suppose you could liken his situation to Ronaldo's (not that I am suggesting he has the slimeball's talent) in that he is a quick winger who has come into a game which was too physical for him.

If he does end up with Betis, or any other Spanish club, I think he will excel in La Liga, which in some ways is a shame.

indeed, I know Rafa ships them out sharpish if the player has been poor, but I think Speedy was young enough to be given another go, maybe even on loan.
But then again if money is tight then can understand Rafa being ruthless and looking to sell him in order to make a few mill.

Pires and Drogba were both reasonably good in their first seasons though, Speedy has been ****.

Manager/coaches see him day in/day out so if there prepared to let him go then it says it all really. Shame because he did look class last season in la liga but so has Morientes this season.

Morientes is class. It's just a case of suitability to our league.

I think you've mis-understood what i was getting at, i didn't mean to say Moro wasn't class just that Gonzo may turn out class, just not in the premier league.

Well, in that case we both agree

Was gutted when Moro didn't adapt to the league mate. It's strange how some foreign players adapt really well to the EPL and others never do.

It's quite the dilemma, particularly given our current situation. Good strikers with natural ability are rare, good strikers with natural ability who are able to handle the EPL are even rarer. I just hope we end up with someone who is more RVN than Morientes this time around.

We've lost/are losing two left sided players - Bolo and Gonzales. Logical to assume we have other targets for that position - Malouda et al. Don't think its necessarily a case of needing to get the cash in because we are skint.
