In my opinion though Cole is the best left back in the world. And on the international stage when it counts I've yet to see a player get the better of him.
I seem to remember Pennant giving him a torrid time, and thats Pennant we're talking about, not exactly world class

Can't think of any others of top of my head.
have you ever seen any of them do any of these though?

i will admit that riise has his limitations but hell he's better than most of those players. cant argue at 4 mil, plus he's remained consistent over the years and is hardly ever injured unlike the list you have presented above.

      riise

we will miss he when he leaves, we'll never have another LB like him.

Maybe it was Pennant had a good game by his usual standards and Cole had a poor one by his.

Who do you think is the best LB in:

        A) The prem
        B) The world.
        Forwards.......

The question was who is a better LB than Riise, not who had a better season at LB.

Honestly I don't think there's a standout candidate for best LB in the prem, which is why i'm quite content with Riise, i don't see anyone currently in our league miles better than him.

With regards the world, I suppose it's between Lahm and Zambrotta, but i'll be honest my european footy knowledge isn't exactly brilliant

Riise has been a good, consistent player for us for many years now. In an age when there are not many class left backs around, we should be happy that we have a pretty good one who defensively has improved considerably under Benitez.

I agree he's a decent player, not as exciting as he was at first but steady. But there are better. Is he good enough to be in a premiership winning team, of course he is, but it's certainley a position we could improve and the endless LB coming in justify that, as well as all the ones linked.

Would anyone be suprised if we bought a LB this summer? No, which tells it all really.

well with aurelio, riise and insua on the books i would really. rb is the position that needs strengthening, we have ample cover for lb already, unless one of them leaves

the main problem is aurelios fitness, we have no evidence that he's going to be able to pull through a season without sitting out a portion, i think Rafa will take a gamble this coming season, but if Aurelio get's injured again, he'll either look for Insua to step up or bring another in

i think risse has been a very solid and effective player for us although i accept he has his limitations but to rate boys like baines ahead of him is just mad.

Yes I can see he has his limitations, but so do Carra, Agger and Finnan. He is not the best LB in the world, but he has been consistent for us. Until we have the money to buy say lahm or Zambrotta or is Insua/Aurreilo oust him he is the better than most out there.
Also he didnt win the UEFA cup with us.

I like Riise. He is clearly not a world beater but he is solid enough an provides good options at both LB and LM. Clearly he isn't the great weakness people make out as we have a splendid defensive record.

I think that it is a position we could improve but I would be more than happy to have Riise start there next season.

"He is not blessed with the fastest of feet which can be demonstrated when he is required to turn quickly or when faced with a defender with the ball at his mercy. It's derigour to mock Riise's dribbling attempts, his one main skill being the schoolyard trick of playing the ball one way past a defender and running around on the other side."

That part sums up Riise perfectly. Oh, and the good left foot. And then...nothing.
