well it's like Dong at Utd, **** player but loads of marketing opps in the far east. Arsenal tried it with Inamoto.
I suppose it depends on how good the player is. If a player is top drawer and has the added bonus of being a popular in a particualr region then fine. But if we are buying **** players to in the hope we can tap into a market, then I dont know if it'd be worth it. I would rather go, as Dave has mentioned, down the route of proper marketing, tours, training camps, feeder clubs etc.

The Americans on here have said that he has been average in MLS, so I doubt he is all that good.

                Opposed.

I hate the way the game is going enough without us signing footballers based on marketability not skill. Makes me wanna puke.

To think we could have signed Alexi Lalas and Kobi Jones...

Wig shops around Liverpool would have made a fortune

At a top club, there must be cases where there is the option of two equally suitable players and you pick the most marketable one.

You would be a terrible business man if that were not the case. I am also sick of Liverpool fans who want Liverpool to be run like a local football team who don't want to progress forward and move on with the times. We should not stay at Anfield (which we are not). It is a **** stadium. I was there a couple of years ago and there is nothing nice about it. A new stadium with 70,000 fans singing 'YNWA' will be an awesome sight. I could barely move at Anfield and I'm only 6 ft 190lbs. It was so uncomfotable and was not a great experience to be honest. A new stadium, an ability to market ourselves which we totally missed the boat on and fair play to the Mancs for taking advantage of that (we are all jealous of there success like the were back in the 80's). We haven't won the league for what 16 or 17 years. We rest on our history and I for one don't think that is a good idea. I want to win the league....I want us to be in a position to win the league. We won't win it this year...we probably won't even finish 2nd. We basically are playing for 3rd and hoping to win the CL. Sad sad sad sad sad.....

                      Cheers

                        it should be done.
there are a few chinese, japanese and korean players who are good enough as a squad member and who can help us sell a lot of shirts in their countries.

Why look that far ? Our club did that with the signing of Robbie Fowler ! Forget all the mambo jambo about him being good for the dressing room and all that other stuff, it was a clever marketing gimmick all along ! And I believe that it worked. I for one bought a jersey with his name on it the minute they announced signing him !
