Each to his own - but while the new designs are radical and possibly controversial, i think anyone that would wish for the old generic bowl design is completely out of kilter with what Liverpool football club is all about. Those old plans were stale from the day they were released.

Agree with that - how anyone can fail to be impressed with a single tier 18/19,000 Kop End with chequered seating no less to stand out even more baffles me. If it's anything like what i've seen - and I expect the final plans to be better, then we'll have the most unique and best stadium in the country - far better than the bland soulless Emirates and OT, OT (though not soulless) has its new hideous ugly upper quadrants and that 'samey-all-the-way-round-look'.

yeah, its a bit different to how things are done in Ireland.

Because of the nature of the architecture, our new stadium will also be shown from the outside whenever the opportunity arises and in time it will become instantly recognisable as 'Anfield2' or whatever we decide to call it. It will become synonymous with Liverpool Football Club.

With the exception of the Allianz Arena in Munich (with it's glass facade that changes colour) not many stadiums are so eye-catching that it's actually worth showing what the outside of the stadium looks like.

From the pics I've seen, I believe we are going to have THE most distinctive, modern football ground in England - possibly Europe.

Standard planning applications take 8 weks to process but i imagine that the this application is much more complex for something on this scale - but i also got the impression that the new scheme had been drawn up after consultation with fans AND the planners themselves. I think any forward thinking town planner would be insane to turn down such an iconic building/stadia - and the guggenhiem in Bilbao should be a great case in point for what a a piece of architecture can do for a city....
I am not suggesting that at all mate, I am saying that the planners may take a certain view due to whats in the development plans.
I would love something really modern.
I think the 8 week thing is for smaller projects (domestic extensions etc)? I am not familiar with how things are done over there, just had a quick read of the Liverpool concils website, and thats what I picked up.

I can't believe we were going to have a stadium without a Kop...at least we will now. If the pics are real, at least its original, and at best its unique(like Anfield is)...and its not a bowl like most others! .......Cornflakes at the Emirates anyone?

I thought the same when I saw the design.

And to be honest that's all I ever wanted. A stadium where you would look at it in awe and think, "Wow, that's Anfield". As long as the design is functional in terms of capacity, retaining atmosphere and is distinctive, then I'm happy. I wouldn't want something that eccentric just for the sake of it, although I would say uniqueness is certainly one of the most important characteristics of the design for me. How many new stadium have been recently built that are so generic, samee and bland? So unremarkable?

We need a stadium that is recognisably ours. Otherwise we might as well build a bowl and share with Everton.

I found one pic on flickr. Why is the pitch outside the stadium?
                            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.
