Basically, Gerrard said he trusts Rafa, and felt that Rafa trusted the players on the pitch to turn it around. How is that criticising him? He also said that Heighway is one of his favourite guys, and obviously he is going to miss him, because Heighway nurtured him all those years.

In 20 years time, another lad who started the academy when he was 8 is going to say the same thing about the dutch fella who took over because they get to have a strong bond.

Who knows if Maureen did realise what was happening for sure? Even so, why do it? Once you know a thing or too about the thoughts of an opponent, you can start to understand them a little more and it will become easier to predict their ideas. Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer.

Fair enough, give this stuff away in 15 years when you've retired and things move on, but not now, when both managers are still at each other.
