Having a go at the new owners

    is pathetic.

Our debts have been written off - but that's not enough

We sign up five of our most important players to long term contracts - but that's not enough

We add top talent to our youth ranks, including one of the top youngsters on Barcelona's books - but that's not enough

We buy a Brazilian who is the youngest player ever to win player on the year in Brazil - but that's enough

We sign Fernando Torres, Rafa's first choice, and don't beat, but shatter, our transfer record - but that's not enough

We are about to unveil new stadium plans with a capacity to expand into the biggest stadium in England - but that's enough

In the time since we last won the league this is by far and away the best pre-season we have ever had and there is still talk of us bringing in more players, yet somehow there are those who still manage to have a go at two men who have always come through when called upon.

Pathetic is the only word I can think of to describe the whingers who say they aren't doing enough.

Who's having a go at them, I haven't really noticed that over the past 2 weeks?

To be honest I thought it was a disaster to let DIC slip away, but I've been pleasantly surprised with G + H so far.

Whoa, whoa. Alright, critising our owners at this point in the summer is ridiculous (not that I have seen much of that since we signed Torres anyway), but for you to say that this is our best pre-season since we won the league is just a fanciful and, at this point, plain wrong. We have signed 2 first-team players, one of whom probably won't figure too much next season, and we have still yet to complete all our outgoing transfers as well as bring in the much-discussed winger or two we desperately need.

Fair enough, everything is looking quite rosy at the moment but we still need to maintain our sense of realism. There remains much to be done at this stage, certainly before we start calling this the best pre-season in over a decade and a half.

There's no doubt that G&H have made some good progress but equally its not all been flowers and roses as you suggest.

Rafa publically slated the new owners after Athens. now some of that may have been the disappointment of losing but in the 30 odd years I've supported LFC its far & away the most savage attack on the owners by an LFC boss. For this to happen something must have seriuosly been wrong. Rafa obviously felt he was being badly let down by G&H. Rafa is as shrewd as they come and he wouldn't have gone public with his concerns without very good reason.

The 2 buys Rafa had lined up failed to materialise. I think its fair to summise that the targets were lost due to a lack of action by H&G.

On top of this we haven't been over active in the t/fer market in terms of net spend. Sure torres came in, a club record. But most of the fee has been offset by the sales of Garcia, Bellamy, & Cisse. We still may spend big but with players like Benyoun being targets the feeling of many fans is that Rafa is again being forced into the bargain basement.

Fans want us to challenge for the title and the general feeling is that the purchases we've made so far will not bring us a serious title challenge next season.

Now H&G appear to be looking long term with the new stadium plans. We all want a bigger stadium than the original plans. financially H&G see that as essential, which is right.

I'm not pro or anti H&G yet. Like a new player they need time to bed in & should be judged over the long term.

Whilst some on here have gone OTT in attacking them, many have gone OTT in defending them. The truth as usual lies somewhere in the middle.

i think its too early to judge. Either positively or negatively. What exactly have they come up with so far?

Well not huge amounts to be real. Its not to say they wont or thy arent working on it. however to say they are the dogs bollocks is a bit premature.

I have been pleasantly surprised by them but i still think in order to be judged a success we need a new stadium. I vastly improved squad and silverware.

I think the negative posts with regards to them is becasue of expectation. We expected to spend at least 50M or 60M plus money that was coming in, in some cases. We always expected more than I thought was going to happen.

          thats my take on it.

The single most important factor to this club being able to challenge for the long haul is the new stadium. The second most important is the marketing of the club. United realise far greater revenue each year which is why they can spend such money. They need to start to replace three of their greatest EVER players (Keane, Giggs, Scholes), and they have the money to do so.

G&H have recognized this. That is why the stadium was the first thing to be overhauled. Which of course meant they needed to revisit the money men, because the initial investment needed to be recosted.

Now we have some serious activity. As mentioned, the spine of our team has been secured on long term deals. There is just Masch to add on a VERY long term contract and our team skeleton is there. We now need to improve our attacking play, so G&H need to back Rafa to the hilt with two good attacking mids. These players must accept rotation, this is key for Rafa.

I'm convinced we will see Benayoun and another in the next fortnight. We will also see the arrival of defensive support. We will then be ready for a premiership assault, but of course we will need our key players to hit form early, and of course we will need luck, with both injuries and referees.

Here's a question... who thinks United could sustain a title bid if they were to lose CRonaldo to a long term injury?

Its an opinion that people are entitled too.

What has actually happened so far though? We've brought in some youth and Torres, however the Torres transfer fund has been offset with the departure of Cisse, Bellers and Garcia.

G&H prior to the CL Final stated that they would give Rafa the funds he needed to bring in the best players. So far they've spent very little on transfers.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

Its true that the money from the sale of Bellers and Cisse can be off set toward Torres' purchase but the difference is we havent had to sell before we buy. We didnt need to have to wait for players to be sold in order to buy. That is a difference. The money HAS been there.

The Garcia deal was done ahead of it, and Bellamy and Cisse were deals almost completed with a few suitors lined up.

I'm just a little worried that Torres is it as far as a top purchase goes and as far as G&H are concerned, they've appeased the fans.

it may show there is a bit more flexibilty with money. It doenst necessarily mean there is more money for transfers.

We're still light years into competing with Chelsea and Manure on the transfer market. I don't think we could have splashed £ 70 M on players, and in their case, in a position of strength. If it needed one team to splash £ 70 M, it would have been ours because we were so far off the pace in the league.

You have to understand mate that there are too many people on this forum and lets be honest, most football forums that one- only want to be there to complain, two- don't have a ****ing clue about what they're on about football wise and three- don't undestand the club, the polotics and how money works etc.

It's now fashionable to slate the team you support because for some reason it indicates that you watch the game and ur able to pin-point the negative aspects of the club.

Well thank **** we didn't have these forums when Souness was in charge we'd literally have people throwing themselves off buildings.

Tom and George have just bought in one of the hottest prodigies in europe and instead of a little opptomism alls we get is moan moan moan.

                            Next year's team:

                            Reina

                            Finnan Carra Agger Riise

                            Gerrard (c) Alonso Mashcerano Kewell

                            Torres Crouch

That to me is a team that can win the league and thats with only one signing.

So lets have a little more optomism and less moaning!
