I’m nearly sure I read a few weeks ago that one of our awful mid-late 90’s defenders were linked with a Premiership club this year. I thought it was Kvarme until I checked he is 35, so must be someone else. Anyone shed any light on this as it’s doing my head in? Think he might be Norwegian also.

I think you mean Frode Kippe. I'm sure his name cropped up somewhere recently.

Ahh, that's exactly who I was thinking of.

Thank God for that, was starting to think I imagined it.

Diouf has to be the worst Liverpool player of recent times. £10m for a player who can't shoot, can barely pass and who when he dribbles, rarely has the ball under any proper control.

I don't think Speedie was that bad. Not really Liverpool class but a decent player nonetheless. He did ok in the few games that he got.

Nope, they come no worse than Josemi. Our defence has been rock solid since Rafa took over, bar the handful of games Josemi played. Excluding his first game of course when he fooled us into thinking he was a decent player.

... prob Piechnik (Sp) to West Ham :whatever: .

He played for us once - they think they want him.

Speedie redeemed himself by scoring on his debut at Old Trafford and then notching a pair at Anfield in the derby. In fact his scoring figures were quite respectable, a healthy 6 goals in 12 games, but his card was marked when Souness took over, especially as he was already over 30 by that point. Always a mardy little ****e, mind.

As previously stated Paul Stewart had no obvious qualities, other than a haircut borrowed from a 1975 Action Man model, hamstrings made from knotted Andrex and the ball control of a Hob-Nob.

Compared to my previous post count in the Lardy One's Lair (100-odd in over 4 years) I'm making out like some speed-fuelled Shaggy-a-like over here!

I have been a Liverpool fan since 1969 and that team in 1994 (apart from Fowler, Barnes, Rush and McManaman) was an embarrassment to the Liverpool name. Souness brought in some donkeys in his time at Anfield but do they come any bigger than Julian Dicks, Kvarme, Piechnick, Ruddock? This team was a joke and Souness cost us dearly and set us back 5 years.
Thank God we are finally assembling a squad to be proud of because that one in 1993/94 certainly wasn't! By the way we were 3:0 down at one point and clawed it back to 3:3.
Don't be so negative - look at this way....how often do we score 3 against man utd?

1993/4 was the ABSOLUTE low point for lfc in my lifetime.

lfc's "fall" occurred between the winter of 1988/89 and the sacking of souness - the title of 1990 was a false dawn and a case of attack carrying defence

                                reasons?

king kenny's limitations as a manager in renewing a worldclass defence-gone-old and perhaps more importantly some of his "mental health issues" following heysel then hillsborough. Also, we were overtaken physically in the way the game was played - particularly by the athletic brutality of grahams arsenal - and commercially by the scum.

roy evans must be regarded as a failure overall but he surely took us forward from where souness left us. likewise houllier, likewise rafa ha taken us forward and may yet get us to the summit. we have not been in better shape than we are today since the winter of 1989.
