this is in today's echo
Everton were forced to admit defeat in their attempts to sign Jason Koumas earlier this week when West Bromwich Albion accepted a mammoth £5.3m offer for the Wales midfielder from Wigan Athletic
everton priced out of a "mammoth" transfer at 5.3m by the all powerful wigan?
do they burn money over at the Pit? what do they do with it? big ground, good (in size not intelligence) crowds, established in the top flight since the big money came into the game, sold a youth team player for a minimum of 20 million, been in europe a few times (briefly)
i just don't understand why they can't compete with some of the other lesser premiership teams."At a football club, there's a holy trinity - the players, the manager and the supporters. Directors don't come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques"

5.3 mill for koumas is laughable anyways, you could get a player twice as good for less in france or spain and even italy..."I have decided to escape, to defy the shogun. Today I will begin walking the road to hell. But you will choose your own path. So, soon you may be seeing heaven. Choose the sword, and you will join me. Choose the ball and you join your mother, in death. You don’t understand my words, but you must choose. So… come boy, choose life or death."

I'm not sure that they would be best served paying big money for Koumas anyway as has been said his wages + price is very high compared to foreign alternatives (and Yossi Benayoun). He was also a failure in the PL when he came. There are much better gambles out there for them I think. I suspect Wigan have much less of a reputation to use as their manager is not established and they have never been a big club.
I think a lot of this is just the spin news gets. I think that Everton will start the season with a much better squad than Wigan and probably slightly improved from last season."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Many thanks my friend. laughed my arris off at thatOriginally posted by The Glove View PostThey even sent out this with Season Ticket renewel forms.
Dear Sir / Madam
The rush will soon be on for season tickets for next season and because in the past you have shown yourself to be a loyal supporter of the Blues you can reserve yours at a special price.
I am writing to all supporters during the next few days to give you some idea of the operation. I can tell you that the posatge alone will amount to £2.75.
The comfort of the supporters such as yourself is to be given top priority and stand tickets for the season will entitle you to FOUR seats so that you can watch the matches lying down or doze if you so wish.
Please note that these tickets are available for the Main Stand only as the Bullens Road is to become a car park. The Gwaldys Street stand is to be converted into a triple Cinema.
Additionally to deter invasion of the pitch we are converting the track into a moat and for a small extra charge you can sail round the pitch in a blue and white gondola and watch the game from various angles.
Finally we can offer you the super executive suite in the top balcony which has been extensively decorated during the close season and by popular demand the seats now face away from the pitch.
On the field we will be all out to avoid defeat against Liverpool (again) and have taken the following steps to achieve this end.
All regular first team players are being transferred
The team will be chosen from the first twenty supporters to arrive at the ground
'Reid' has been retained but will provided with an electric wheelchair
The Ball will be radio controlled from the directors box
Prices for season tickets are as follows
Open Air gwaldys street, 4 to a table (film as advertised) 50p
Main stand with full reclining seats 80p
Super Exec with seats away from the pitch £350.27
Super Exec with seats facing the pitch £2.50
Gondola seats 70p
Yours
Philip Carter

just to add to the mix- this id from the bbc gossip page today:
David Moyes is upset with his bosses after they turned down his request for a new Mercedes. The Everton boss argued that Andy van der Meyde has a Ferrari even though he's not a first-team regular but his complaints fell on deaf ears. (People)

"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.
"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."
