Does Rafa have any excuse not to...

challenge for the title this year?
With all the deadwood being shipped out, big money spent and cover being brought in, does rafa have any excuse not to having us challenge for the title?

I dont think I could take it anymore if we got to say November and were effectivley out of the title race.
btw I'm not saying Rafa has to win the league this year, but what I want to see is us put in a strong challenge and be in contention right up to the last kick of the next season.

He's had the big bucks to spend this summer (regardless of the fact that a lot of it seems to be from transfer sales) and got in some very exciting players (Babel could be fantastic for us) He has not had to shop in the bargain basement this summer.

The fact that Man Utd have splashed as much and more and signed some top quality players too will make it very difficult. We'll challenge for sure but it will be very difficult IMO.

I think all any sensible Red would ask for would be a genuine challenge rather than being out of the title picture by October. If we're still in there come March/April time but don't end up winning it, it would be a progression.

The biggest disappoinment the last 15 years is that we have not even put in one single title challenge. We finished second one year but we really didn't had any chance to win the title that season.

We have been out of the race in January most of the seasons the last 15 years.

I would be happy with a title challenge and delighted if we win the title.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

am glad that all of you are on the same wave length as me!
the Chavs and the Mancs will be right up and if we can maintain a sustained challenge then that'll be ok for me.

we were much closer in 96 with uncle roy than people care to remember. even though we finished 3rd we were the last team capable of catching united.

well we did have a chance but we threw it away

As for the initial question, it's all going to depend on how quickly the new signings bed in. All of the players we had already know the ropes by now Masch included. I'll be very gutted if we have another slow start, and questions will probably start to be asked if it happens again this season, but seeing as it's not going to happen we won't have a problem.

I don't think we can realistically win the title this season but we must be very much closer this time around. i think much will depend on Utd & Chelsea. If theycontinue to perform as last season then things will be very difficult for us. a well as progressing ourselves, we need them to drop more points.

Anything more than 10 pts off the pace this season will be very disappointing

as for right now, any self respecting red has got to be saying something like 'of course we can we the league'
'Of course I didn't take my wife to see Rochdale as an anniversary present.
                    It was her birthday.
Would I have got married during the football season ?
                    Anyway, it was Rochdale reserves.'

Nah, I think 3rd is realistic again. Although I think we will be very much closer to 2nd & also much further above the Gooners. Basically I'm in agreementwith THe Sock & Frodo.

Sadly I think Scum are gonna win again, leaving them only 1 behind us which will ****ing kill me.
                            3rd place. Worst champions ever.

and we will win the ****in league, on goal difference with neville scoring an og on the last game of the season to lose 1-0 and us winning 5-0 with three from torres and two from jamie !!!!
