Here's a new CROW sing-song which just came to me:

To the tune of Boney-M's classic "Brown Girl in the ring"

        Andriy Voronin
        Traa la-la la-la
        Aaaaandriy Voronin
        Traaaaa la la la la-la
        Andriy Voronin
        Traa la-la la-la
He looks like he's from Status Quo, hail the CROW

It's good to see the fan club is gaining momentum. Hopefully at the very least he will get a fair crack from fans now.

He has looked a lot quicker than I have seen him in the past this pre-season.

Some say he's pacy, some say he's slow.
                Which one is it?

Watch the highlights of the friendlies. He's no Cisse but he has good acceleration and decent top speed and appears to know how to time a run which is in many ways just as important.

                  It's early days mind.

I want to say that, while the jury is still out, he has looked the perfect replacement for Garcia for me; He is much better in possession than Luis, is far less wasteful with the ball, very hard working with a good footballing brain and plays a very direct style that is well suited to our side. I know Garcia scored some huge goals, was creative, etc. But I can also say Voronin's form in these early days (in friendlies, mind) makes me think he could be very influential for us this season.

As for his past play, sometimes the burden of being one of the best players on a club means you press and your ideas don't come off, etc. Chemistry is a very important thing. Torres may be in this same boat; Here's hoping the change of venue and being surrounded by players like Gerrard, Alonso, Crouch, Kuyt, Mascherano etc. will allow both Voronin and Torres to relax a little and play to their strengths; It's early, but both players look like they could be huge for us this year.

Seeing as you asked so nicely, yes you do!

Nothing wrong with giving praise where it is due. Voronin HAS played well in pre-season. When you compare his cost to his potential worth the feelings of optimism seem to be justified.

Aye, some of it has been well over the top - I've even seen some suggest he should start at Villa with Torres. These friendlies are pretty meaningless in the long-term. Pennant was excellent in last season's pre-season games, but then had a really **** start when the proper stuff began in the Prem - and, hey presto, no-one remembered his good pre-season displays.

On the other hand though it was a very encouraging performance and it surprised many of us - me included. Long may it continue but much bigger tests are to come.
