Disco, it depends on how you look at it:Originally posted by discoSo, are you saying that the UK ****ed up the whole thing by forgetting to reduce tax to 20%, one of the key aspects of the whole theory?
From the overall economic viewpoint? NO. The UK economy benefited as a whole.
From the moral viewpoint of the workers (such as Liverpool) that got displaced and had to endure "personal tragedies"? YES If Thatcher had implemented Friedman's negative income tax system, then those displaced workers would have benefited ENORMOUSLY.
From the moral viewpoint of the all the workers in the world? NO Again, see my reply to Le Chacal on the dangers of invoking morality on one side only."In fact I’m going to make a promise which will be welcomed by many. Fair enough, don't really remember enough about it to debate any of that, and I sense this discussion is as welcome as a fart in an elevator.Originally posted by univofchicagoDisco, it depends on how you look at it:

PS You're very brave to indirectly suggest that the personal tragedies in Liverpool were for the better of all workers in the world.... on a Liverpool website

I HONESTLY was not aware that the city of Liverpool had suffered so much from Thatcher's policies. I am sorry if I pissed people off here - I didn't write all the stuff to piss you guys off. Obviously, I would have been a lot more careful if I had known about it.Originally posted by disco

But now I know about it, I'll be more considerate.Last edited by univofchicago; 28-08-06, 08:13 PM."In fact I’m going to make a promise which will be welcomed by many. If there’s no finance secured by the opening day of the season, I’m going to hang up my keyboard and close KOPTALK down."

Well, unemployment reached over 30% in Liverpool in the early 1990's. That's just ****ed up.Originally posted by univofchicagoI HONESTLY was not aware that the city of Liverpool had suffered so much from Thatcher's policies.
