Two hard working widemen who work for the team by providing crosses, tracking back and scoring a few goals.
We don't need 2 out & out wingers to provide crosses..this is a MYTH. All midfield players & full backs should be able to cross well and take on a man every once in a while like Gerrard does.
McManaman was the winger in the 90's, otherwise hardly anyone of note.
Bottom line people, BENYAOUN & BABEL are more than capable of supplying the amo for our strikers.
RS, the difference is that you could get away with that back then but not anymore. The managers now analyzes the games much more thanks to computers and so on. They will find out if a team have a weakness much easier than 25 years ago. If we don't have the option of an out and out winger then our opponents will use that game after game.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

He could offer us some width but like Giggs or Ronaldo, he isn't an out and out winger. Out and out wingers hug the touchline all the time. There are no more out and out wingers in the game today. Players do much more than that nowadays.

One player that stays wide and not cuts inside just for the fun of it, like Alves or Joaquin.

Voronin was very good, Momo was back to his best it seemed, even putting some passes together!! Babel had flashes of brilliance and Torres seemed ****ing ace.....

Dare I say even Pennant had me thinking...mmm, maybe he can just about be good enough.....

The problem is that we don't know how fit he is and he will anyway need a few months before he is 100% again.

mmm ... These are exception to the rule though. There are not many of these type of players anymore.

                          9. Couldn't have done much more for the cause.

Hyypia: 7 Great experience and hardly put a foot wrong. Hard to imagine better cover.

Crouch: 5 did just ok. A bit lethargic at times.

Kuyt: 6 gets one up on Crouch for trying harder and linking up nicely.

                          7. Typical Kuyt performance, unlucky to get a cool finish rulled out.

Gerrard: 6 didnt look his best.

7.5 Getting back to his best.

Momo: 7 it was like watching an Ork in midfield. Did play some nice football at times to.

8.5 Flawless from Momo even thought there wasn't enough attacking from Bremen for him to really play his game.

Benayon: 6 showed intelligence but seem not to be his day. Did OK

                          Xabi: 7

                          8. Though he did very well, won back plenty of posesion, passing immaculate, looked dangerous in attack.

                          Riise: 7 Good goal.

Torres: 8 worth every penny, and is only gonna get better. We have another in the same class as Steve. Maybe a 7 because he had so little time.

Babel: 7 Seems to have everything, pace, power, skill, one with a very bright future.

                          6. Thought he looked unfit and uninterested at times, one decent flash of skill though.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

He's had a year off and he's been playing all summer for the convicts if he stays injury free he'll be 100% match fit.

Happy with Pennant and would like to see him have a chance. He was very impressive in this game. Some of his crosses were class but were not read by strikers. Watch his tracking back which is something I liked from him. Also his passing and decision making has improved in the last 6 months. He is one of our most improved players. Add a few goals to his game and we will have some player. Impressed by Voronin as I think everyone was.

The way people are going on there's only about five players in the world people would be happy with us having out wide. We've added Babel and Benayoun, both players who like to take defenders on, and have shown they can do so playing from the flanks. What vital function is it exactly that people feel our wide players are not the right kind of players to fulfil?
