I make that 12-9 to us, but mine is of course doused with a liberal helping of bias. The outcome also depends which players you put head-to-head, but I take your point. Man for man, we're not far off.

To be honest I really wouldn't want to give a judgment at the minute. A lot depends on how our completely overhauled forward line works out in my opinion. We were as strong as anyone as a defensive unit last year and, other than Riise, I think would stand up well in a player for player comparison of those competing for the defence, keeping and CM positions.

The area we need to improve is terms of attack and until we know how good Torres, Babel, Voronin are in the PL and Yossi is at a big team then it is very difficult to judge.

hard to judge at the moment - we're overhauling big time - chavski will be nearly the same - arsenal weaker - united - well who knows how their new boys will all turn out. lets wait and see - i'm pretty confident anyway

I would rate both squads equally. The advantage they they have is that most of their key players have PL experience where as a couple of ours, Torres and Babel, Are yet to cut their teeth in the PL.

We're stronger than them in some areas while they're a bit stronger than us in some.

At the end of this season we'll know who has the better squad.

Both our defences are good

Our central midfield is better, their wingers are better then ours

Our strikers are better then theirs

You've reduced both squads to mathematical equations that can't possibly equate factors like form, confidence, teamwork etc. It's admirable, but ultimately pointless. You could sign the greatest player for each position, and not have them gel as a cohesive unit. Ask Real Madrid. Or too a much lesser degree, Chelski. Much lesser.

However, personally, I think we're awesome! **** off Utd!

Most clinical finisher we had IMO. Certainly more clinical than Kuyt, better header than Crouch and Garcia wasn't even a striker. An extremely valuable squad player to have.

This is our only downfall, not raising our game against lesser opposition.

If we had won say 9 instead of 3/4 of our first ten games last season, we would have been close enough to the scum to put some real pressure on them, and then anything could've happened.

Thats all history though now and ultimately pointless bringing it up, but it shows that even last year we had a squad capable of pushing for the title.
