We didn't 'miss' out on Mancini cos there was no deal to miss out on. And Benayoun was bought to fill the squad - you don't lash £10m+ on a squad man so Benayoun is a perfect fit. Rafa has been able to buy exactly who he wanted for the first time since he's been here IMO. Maybe he would have liked an Eto'o or a Queresma but if they (a) ain't available and/or (b) only available at a loony price, then there is nothing we can do about it. But I think Rafa is very, very happy with the talent he's been able to assemble for the season. The fact he's been able to complete all of the deals (bar Heinze but that is another matter) near the start of preseason is ever better for us.

So we should just spend money for the sake of it? We've bought with actual cash this Summer rather than relying on sales IMO - MAJOR difference compared to previous seasons. Its why we were able to pull off the Torres/Babel deals as previously, they would have been out of reach due to tying up major cash into 1-2 players.

how exactly do you make up for it, had nowt to do with the yanks that, and we're in a completely different situation now, at least we should face a situation like that in the future were we caught out by the extra few million

makes you think if Parry deserves the slating he was getting, or whether it was moores and the board in general that stopped our progress?

Parry is earning his money this summer and proved himself. PR, activity, its all been positive.

Our spending has been average, true.
But the notion that the investment is there will only buffer the chance of being able to sign £20m+ players such as Torres.

G+H have really given us a push, the likes Morres and co. never ever dreamed of doing.

I'm a bit surprised at the comments on the transfer spending. We have spent alot of money on transfers compared to other years. The only difference is that we have actually recovered some money on the players we sold, so the net spending isn't that much, but still more than usual for being in the end of july.
I also think that we shoould be rally pleased with the quality of our signings.
We needed a pacy winger/striker and got babel, we wanted a proven goal scorer we got torres. We needed a back up after robbie we got voronin who looks surprisingly good. We also signed the player of the year from the brazilian league who is the youngest player to receive this award and also got a european passport and we got him ridiculously cheap.
We shouldn't forget that Rafas is still looking to bring in one or two more players.
IMO this summer transfer spending has been the best piece a long time for the club.
