He's never gonna play left back.

He'll hardly ever play centre back as he's at least 4th choice behind Carra, Sami and Agger, and I'm sure Paletta would have something to say about that too.

Seems a strange one to me. He's not an attacking, rampaging right back in the mould that Rafa normally likes ('laterals') so even as 2nd choice right back I can hardly see the bloke fitting in.

I reckon we'll pack him off to Sevilla (or somewhere else) when we finally find the funds to buy Alves. He'll be another Josemi/Kromkamp type; a short term buy IMO.
I can see him providing cover for Riise at Left Back as well, leaving Aurelio and Gonzalez to compete for LW

My worry for this season was about our defence, if age catches up with sami and carra gets injured I thought this would ruin our season but now we have agger and neill who can play there which gives me a lot more confidence.

Neil was very good last season and excellent at the world cup,Hiddink seemed to get the best out of him and he is a very tactical coach as is rafa so hopefully he can respond the same way to rafa as he did to hiddink.

my life long blackburn fan friend said this when I quizzed him about Neill:

"yeah mate - he's quality. very hard, never shirks a challenge, but has designs on playing centre back. can be a bit prone to dodgy positioning, but not many get past him and is a great athlete"

Sounds OK, but cannot say I'm overly excited. Must mean KK is defo going.

DEFINATELY mate. Neill is as effective on the left as he is on the right. The further Aurelio is upfield, the better!

I know a season ticket holder at ewood and he says pretty much the same. Although he can forget about playing CB!

Cover for all 4 positions, whilst getting rid of a want-away player who isn't as good in the Premiership - this will be a great deal if it's agreed.

Neill can be a bit rash at times in the box (eg his near penalty vs Chelsea the other day) but that is my only doubt against him as a footballer. I'm sure Rafa wouldn't be interested in Neill if he thought his thuggishness was too much to deal with.

I for one really hope the deal goes through and Blackburn agree to the bid.

If Rafa had any issues with this side of Neill's game then he wouldn't have been looking at him. It clearly isn't a problem for Rafa.

                      .
                      1) don't run before you can walk - we haven't signed Neill yet

                      2) don't forget paletta - he didn't look bad pre-season!

I`m just gonna pray summat ****s up at the last minute. I desperately dont want us to sign this lad. Needless to say though, he will get my full support once he pulls the red shirt on
