He'll be lucky to get a contract for a tenth of that value next time.
Parry and Moores must share some of the blame but so must Houllier

It is often the manager that recommends what sort of salary a player should be on or at what level negotiations should start

Some of the salaries we threw around during the Houllier era to average or below that players is mindblowing

Rafa is on a much tighter leash and to be fair to him I think he doesnt much care for overpaid players and appears to have recommended much lower wages than the previous regime

I wasn't suggesting that Houllier didn't recommend a "salary band" for Diao but the contract would have been ratified by the board. We know they (the board) have vetoed other contracts put to them, but sadly they were convinced of Diao's merits.

What we cannot do is blame Diao for the length and value of that contract.

As a side note, I wonder who has/had the most ridiculous contract in comparison to the role they play at the club?

£60k a week? That was a 5 year contract too (used, no doubt to protect our investment )

Here's a song for Lucas Neill - to the tune of "Piece of my Heart" (as sung by Janis Joplin and others)

                    (take it)
Take another little piece of his leg, now Lucas
                    (break it)
Break another little bit of his leg, now Neilly
                    (have a)
Have another little piece of his leg now, Lucas
You know you do it 'cos it makes you feel hard...

It's amazing some of the talentless individuals we've had to support! The players who you wouldn't shake hands and say 'Thank You' to if you met them.
If we had some ham, we could have some ham and eggs .... if we had some eggs!

I can see why we would want to bring Neill in (ie for cover), but a swap for Warnock doesn't make sense to me, especially when Warnock must be worth more than £2m now and increasing with experience.

But that's probably why I don't manage a Premiership club.
